Gerwaeynn

Gerwaeynn founded the Pearl Heartstrings Kindred alongside Antuudel, the love of his life. While it is her Charge to guard the Kindred’s precious connections, it is his charge to protect her laughter. He has no interest in leading the Kindred, preferring to study the bounty of the tide pools and train his pet jerboa Gerrat when not helping to support the Kindred.

Gerwaeynn started out in Flotsam Town with innumerable siblings, the son of a Fae of the Wind clans and a Guardian originally of the Fire Flight. He was one of the younger ones, and never amounted to much. Some touch of Fae in him kept him smaller than other Guardian dragons for a long time. As much as he loved his siblings, there was always one who was better than him at something. The only thing he was good for was an occasional laugh, from a joke he made or from some stumble that someone else gleefully pointed out. In leaving for his search, he was looking for space for himself more than he was for his charge. He doubted it would be anything important. He took his time, travelling easy and enjoying himself. While he gained many friends, he had a more serious relationship with a dragon named Hosethiad for a time. However, he had his own things to do, leaving Gerwaeynn to continue on his search alone.

He had come to the tidepools with the intent of catching some dinner, and became absorbed in their beauty instead. He was so fascinated by their little bustles of activity that he didn’t notice when Antuudel came to land next to him, staring seriously into the pool alongside him.

Are you looking into the future? She had asked him, solemn.

After loosing his balance a little, he’d replied, I am now.

Whose?

My own, I hope. After a charged moment of studying her, he turned back to the pool. Did you know that clam is going behind the back of the starfish to poison its brother? I always wanted a dramatic life like that.

As she laughed, he knew what he was meant to protect. As simple as that.

He is always surprised by how much he matters to her. After being one of many for most of his life, being her only delights him. He doesn’t expect to protect his serious mate from physical dangers, but keeping her happy is a mission all its own, one even more important in his eyes.

Gerrat the Jerboa (it was an excellent name, he didn’t know why Antuudel thought otherwise) had been made for him since they met. He was handsome, strong—and also adorable. He was high-spirited, yes, but Antuudel’s dry comments about him wrecking the lair were frankly unwarranted! And yes, he did frequently jump away from Gerwaeynn’s shows of affection, but he was easily startled, that’s all. Antuudel would be much happier with a fluffy friend, though he was glad she at least had Flora.
