Escera

Born to Taara, the Chosen of the dragons blessed by the cosmos themselves, Escera was steeped in magic from her birth. Magic came naturally to her and her siblings and Taara was eager to teach her children all she knew, for she knew they would carry on her teachings far beyond her own limits. "Spread the knowledge of the stars without thought for the self." This was the mission of Taara's lineage, and she was careful to impart the importance of it to her hatchlings until they were old enough to venture out into the world themselves.

Many of Escera's siblings developed the gift of Prophecy, the ability to peer into the future the cosmos had divined and impart the wisdom unto others. However, that ability did not present itself in Escera naturally. She was gifted in other magics, particularly in combat spells. Taara sometimes joked that Escera must have been swapped at birth with one of Ryuusei's children, gifted as Escera was in understanding combat. Though not intended to be a mean-spirited comment, the fact that Escera naturally lacked the ability to divine prophecy weighed heavily on her mind. She threw herself into her combat training in--in her mind-- an attempt to compensate for her shortcomings. She excelled in her training, much to the point that Taara deemed her ready to leave for her mission well before her siblings. What Taara saw was a competent dragon, able to hold her own and forge a new path for herself-- but to Escera she couldn't help but feel almost like she was being dismissed early for her lack of divine magic ability. Escera wished desperately to live up to the lineage she was born into, and the fact that her training was 'complete' despite her lack of prophetic magic stung. Still, she was not one to give up so easily, and she set off on her mission to spread knowledge.

The first few years of Escera's travels were largely uneventful, and slowly she began to feel lost in her purpose. "Spread knowledge of the stars" such a broad phrase...what did it truly mean? What was the knowledge of the stars, anyways? Was it exclusively prophecy? If so, was she even helping, what with her lack of prophetic visions? For months she despaired in such thoughts, and wandered without purpose. Her travels led her to the southern Icefields, and the icy grasp of the wind matched the ice cold fear in her heart that she had no purpose. Subconsciously she felt drawn to the cold, and that feeling was like a lifeline to her, drowning in her doubts as she was. Deep in her heart she felt like she was meant to be here, meant to do something, and it gave her a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of purpose in life and she clung to it desperately. She has followed that feeling and found her way to the Opalescent clan, a clan of dragons living nestled the frosted peaks of the cloudscrape crags, in a sheltered oasis between several peaks. They have built their homes deep within the caves of the mountainside, where something magical seems to penetrate the very rock itself as glistening veins of sparkling opal line every tunnel and even radiate a gentle light. Here, Escera feels a deep sense of home wash over her, and she knows somehow, that she will find her purpose here.
