Halcyon is lured out of his egg by the sound of his parents' quiet laughter, telling each other stories as the sun sets. His parents are delighted to see him, and he grows knowing all the while that his parents will support him through anything. Chai teaches him language, math, and history, but his favorite lessons by far are Comet's aerial acrobatics. He masters simply flying at a record pace, and it's not long before his mother is guiding him through loops, dives, and other displays of athletics. In the skies, he pays no mind to the conflict unfolding below him. And when even his parents are drawn into that conflict, he refuses to take sides with them, instead choosing to leave the clan entirely.
