They shouldn't suffer the way she does. A name as chipper as Starburst does not betray the penetrative darkness that has settled into this young fae's heart. Toughened beyond her years by horrors she scarcely describes, she trades her silence for service. Her bladesmanship is unparalleled in comparison to the many low-brow mercenaries roaming Sornieth in search of easy coin, and while she does not come cheap, she is well worth her weight in gold. As such, she has found a temporary home alongside the performers of the artisan collective "Mother's Cough", a Plague-based gaggle of young talents that specialize in culturally-unique Plague artforms. Starburst does not count herself as an artist. The sorrowful mewl of the panflute she is careful to always keep at her side, unpracticed but from the heart, is indicative of this. Instead, she acts as their hired bodyguard. Thieves who count the travelers as easy targets often regret their decision far too late, her blade angled at their throats before an apology can be murmured. In fact, her efficiency can be worrisome. Her employers occasionally comment on the brutality of her methods, but Starburst is quick to dismiss their concerns. None of them have struggled in the same manner as she has, life facing her with two closed fists holding impossible decisions. True, she doesn't know anything of their backgrounds, but she doesn't need to. They would understand if they had experienced the same as her...indeed, the Fae's mind is as unyielding as her sword. |
