Sometimes the thoughts are unavoidable. Sometimes these claws are not my own. Sometimes I can't help but give into the voices. Like the whispers of a ghost unknown hidden just out of sight, I hear choices that must be made. I have to do as they say. Trell, that's what they call themselves.

It started a long time ago, before having ever met any light flight. I was a child, a mere hatchling. It was dark night were even the moon's light was hiding away. An grownup ridge like myself had a child of similar age as me. They'd been called away for other duties but the child had to stay here in the nursery with me. A girl. She looked like me and I like her. Her name? It escapes me. It doesn't matter anyways. Trell whispered to me.

"Kill her."

Why would I? She hadn't done a single wrong. She probably didn't even know me. I denied Trell.

"Kill her! Do it! Do it or you will feel my wrath, child."

I shook my head and in that instant, I knew the wrath of Trell who back then was just a voice with no name. Pain. Infinite. Rushing through my head without end. Shattering every bone in my body without having ever broken. It didn't end. Not until my thrashing body stood up and crawled over to the other hatchling and did the deed. It took all of my effort to lift just a single claw. She stared at me. Didn't even utter a word. Wide eyes and confusion. What could anyone else possibly do to her? Both of us had yet to see the darkness of the world and I was to see it first.

Now some may say that their first kill was an easy one. They're lying. It never is. Not for anyone one. The thoughts of what's to come to the souls you've damned, the idea that someone is watching, the mess...It's too much for all but for the true husks of Trell.

I can say that it wasn't clean but at least the pain had ended. At least I was able to be left alone with the remains of my innocence. And it didn't stop there. It never did. There's always another one. Trell is never finished. They will never stop.

They found out what I had done. The rest of the clan looked upon me with disgust. How could they have twisted children who haven't even left the nest? Would you call them evil? Would you have called me evil? I tried to explain but what can a hatchling manage to utter that didn't sound strange? Needless to say, they cast me out. They couldn't put me out of my misery and condemned me to an eternity of Trell's whisperings. I wandered and wandered, starving and hungry and the more Trell whispered, the more I heard.

More and more and more. Slay this. Slaughter that. Soon it all became a blur as a trail of blood was left behind me. Countless days of wandering and then came another dragon, a fae named Orchadilay. She was as young as I and strangely enough, Trell hadn't uttered a word. She offered to take me home to a small den carved into a tiny rock cliff graced by light. It was far different from the plague ridden lands I was born in. No rot, no stench, just the beautiful light of the sun. How many days had it been since the last time I felt like that? I was able to take a fresh breath of air and think of...nothing. Blissful nothing. Peace at last. Orchadilay left my side. She had dragons to talk to, duties to attend.

Whatever the few hours spent with Orchadilay had done, Trell had found a way to weasel in the moment that she left my side. They left me an order, just one: hide here, and on the next new moon you will find more souls for me. The idea of staying here by the side of that dragon who could drive away Trell was perfect anyways. I'll not just hide here. I will thrive away from the darkness in my head.

It wasn't a perfect existence. The darkness of the blackest night of the month held a sway unlike anything I've felt before. It was the only time that Trell could claw the insides of my head. I had to do what they said. Maybe not to any of the den I found myself with, but it was still to be done. On those nights, I was unlike myself. My voice wasn't even mine.

"I am the will of Trell. I am the warrior of the beast. Your souls are fit only for they."
