It is said that as a young hatchling, Umbra followed a will-o-the-wisp into the darkness and thus was lost forever from the home of his birth. He has no memory of such a time, and no concern for what he may have left behind. Queen Sasithorn is his mother, and the the prince of shadows, and a shadow dragon is just what he is -- through and through, in heart and spirit. Umbra was beloved, playful and eerie, up until the day he disappared from his kingdom forever, once more guided into the darkness.

However, Umbra has not yet died. Rather, he exists, just as he always has, with one foot in each of the worlds the Lunastorm clan exists on top of. As he aged, the boundary grew thinner, and in time Umbra passed completely into the world of spirits, a half-dead spectre connected to the living world by a final thread of life. Exploring this new realm with the company of a guide -- that which lead him off to begin with, speaking of a haunting destiny -- he thinks not of the home he left behind, nor the worry he might have caused. What Umbra does not know is that his time grows short, and in time he may find it impossible to return to what he's left. His destiny, then, must be hastened.

When in the realm of the living, Umbra was a trickster, and very much the playful sort. He treasured clever games, and loved to win, and could often be found curled up with his mother while begging her for a story or a song. On the occasion that she refused to placate him, he would quickly dart off to find another victim for his entertainment.

As the prince has aged and crossed further into the realm of spirits, the smile on his face has grown more empty, his laughter increasingly less mirthful and mischievous and instead more hollow. In time, perhaps, it will fade away completely. After all, surely an individual with a spirit as lighthearted and resilient as Umbra's would best withstand the world of profound melancholy into which he has crossed. How long, however, may the prince hold out before even he succumbs to this world's solemn nature?

Though flight of mind and purpose has distracted him, Umbra does truly care for the family he has left behind.

His mother, Sasithorn, was the first to take him in, and the one to whom he owes his growth and cleverness. He knows not of the worry he has left her with, having always thought her infallible. In truth, he has far too much faith in the resiliency of both Sasithorn and the rest of his family, and underestimates his own importance.

The same could be said for his adoptive older sister, Skuld. They played together when young, both playful creatures of the shadows, and in his mind she is still the child she was in their youth. He has not considered if the same may be true for her. Unbeknownst to the both of them, the siblings in spirit possess a connection far stronger than anyone expects.

Of Styrmir, Umbra holds only the most vague of memories. The veilspun cannot truly be called his father, but is, perhaps, the closest Umbra has ever had. Perhaps he is one of the reasons the prince finds such comfort in the rain. The sky, at least, should be able to cry, if one cannot seem to do so themselves.
