"C'mon! You can do better than that!"

Retcher found the egg completely by accident. The clan had been scavenging in the Shifting Expanse for the better part of the week, searching for anything and everything that could be of some use. If it could be eaten, sold, or able to be carried off, the scavenging dragons would make a grab at it.

The abandoned nest was in tatters. Whoever had been there before had left the place in a hurry, and other scavengers had gotten to it first. What little was left was half-destroyed and/or worthless. Retcher was about to give the call to move on when a flash of light caught his eye.

The Mirror dragon slunk over, eyes both wary and curious. The light flashed again, half-smothered by broken wood and debris. Retcher moved the refuse away, clawing through the garbage in search of the light.

The egg lay there, as if waiting for him. It was a glossy blue, a pulsating dot in the middle being the source of the light. As Retcher ran a claw over it, he felt the tickle of static electricity against his flesh.

Somebody had just left this unborn dragon here. He should do the same. He should really just do the same.

Retcher cursed.

The egg was in a place of honor as the scavengers returned to the Grotto. Retcher kept it close to him the whole trip home. His consort, the leader of the clan, only gave him a look before allowing him to place the egg with the others. He didn't leave its side for a moment.

When it hatched a few days later, it seemed almost fate that a little Mirror dragon would be looking up at the Mirror dragon who had saved her.
