There was no heartfelt reunion, in fact, the three of them immediately got into a heated argument the moment they made eye contact with each other.

Beta was born with a chip on his shoulder, a itch under his skin that drove him to start and finish fights. People would go out of their way to avoid him, knowing of his legendary easily-set-off short fuse, like a raging river no one could hope to stand against him. No one, especially his family, found it surprising that he ended up running away at a young age; there was a deep hunger in him that could be sated.

Beta hated love, it was a sickness he had avoided since he was young. He was a beta tester in a new experiment, he wasn’t even supposed to live as long as he did. The scientists were obsessed with creating a stronger Rifter, one with a hide that couldn’t be broken. Many of his other siblings’ crystalized patches became brittle, shattering during battle, and causing them great pain. Yet Beta survived these trials, his crystalized scales impenetrable, and growing into a young adult with a bloodlust for a “worthy” opponent. His heart only seemed to beat in the heat of battle, envious as he watched others who seemed to find the simple pleasure in just talking to others, caring for those they loved. He couldn’t understand that feeling, therefore it was a weakness when his chest ached for something more than another fight, more than another lifeless opponent under his claws.
