You are born from nothing. You are born in the deep shadows of the tangled wood, in your mothers domain and you are born weak. You remain hidden for your youngest years, not knowing who or what you are and you claw your way to strength, to power, to survival.
You join a traveling clan, devout worshipers of the Shadowbinder, looking for a prophecy from generations ago, finally fulfilled in your arrival: you were promised. You are their deity's son, their successor and heir, destined to rise above mere mortals and take your rightful place amongst the gods. And they were sent to guide you, to teach you, to die for you.

You go with them. You master the powers your heritage has granted you, shadows the same midnight pitch as your scales spring to live under your command and no darkness can limit your sight. At night, you pray. Your mother never answers. The gifts of the night are many, and you master them all. Still no answer. Your prayers must not be enough - maybe she has lost sight of you? The old ways offer a solution - a sacrifice. Yes. She will hear you. One by one your servants fall at your hands. She must hear you.

You run out of sacrifices. Surrounded by the bodies of your servants, drenched in their blood you set out to find a mate. You need more blood. You need blood of your blood. You have a daughter and her eyes are bright as the stars – a sign. You offer her siblings at your altar. You have more children. There is no answer. Is she ignoring you? After all you’ve done for her – after all the sacrifices, all the prayers, the devotion and loyalty, freely given – she dares ignore you?

You seethe and you consider options and you remember there are other gods. You will ascend. You will take your mothers place – or carve your own. You move to the Wasteland and the Plaguebringer grants you her ear – you sacrifice and for the first time you see results. Your scales change color and your clan grows as your power does. The Mother of Plagues promises no easy path to godhood, but she promises a path. It will take centuries. Just so long as there are sacrifices, there will be progress. You will see justice.
