"Sun..." The skydancer quirked her lips at the sound of her friend behind her. She cocked her head slightly and glanced back at him without fully turning around. A low chuckle escaped her throat. The other stopped in his tracks. Good.
"What is it, Rauken?" Her voice sounded sharp to her own ears. Once - days ago, though it felt like years - she would never have spoken to her long time friend so harshly.
"You've changed, Sun," The one named Rauken said. "If I didn't know better, I would say Aarta has finally gotten to you." Spell of stillness broken, he moved so he was standing in front of her. His claws clacked on the cold stone of the mountain side.
There was no vegetation this high up. They had moved up the mountain after Aarta and her consort had wrested control of the clan away from the previous council. A council which had included both Shieldsun and Rauken.
"She's right, Rauken," Shieldsun hissed, voice low to keep from carrying. No one was nearby, but voices echoed in the mountains. "You would do well to submit or risk losing the clan."
She jerked her head slightly, in a movement anyone observing the interaction would not notice. Rauken would know what it meant. She hoped. Wings beat fiercely as she slowly raised herself into the air. A cloud of snow and small rocks blew up around her and Rauken had to turn to avoid being blinded.
