Biography

Gadreel
The Unwilling Fighter
"Why do we always have to fight? I suppose it's better than joining the Army myself."

Gadreel stood atop the peak of his little mountain and stared out to the Northwest, to his old home. He spread his wings and slowly flew down to his cave at the bottom of the mountain. It was his home-sweet-home since leaving the Starfall Isles. The cave was cold and windy and often filling with snow, but what choice did he have? He had lied to his friends and his family. They had wanted him to go join the ranks of the Arcane Exalted Army and it was something he was not ready to do. So he lied. He told them he was leaving to join the ranks of his brethren to defend their home and instead escaped his fate by travelling to the Southern Icefield.

Entering his cave, Gadreel let out a hefty sigh before settling into his pine needle bed for the night.

Morning came all too soon for Gadreel. He stretched his wings and back before finally opening his eyes. Sort of. Still half-asleep he lumbered out of his cave towards the nearby river, fully unaware that he was being followed. Gadreel dunked his head in the cold water and pulled out shaking and completely awake. It was then, as the ripples in the water settled, that he noticed a reflection other than his own. Startled, he jumped back, ready to attack and growled deep but the owner of the reflection was no where in sight. He shook his head again believing it to be a figment of his imagination brought on by the lack of sleep. He half-growled and half-sighed and took to the skies landing on the peak of his little mountain and stared out at the Isles again. It had become a tradition to see them when he woke and before he slept. A reminder of why he could not return despite the many times he had wanted to since he left.

The day went by as slowly as the others. After leaving the peak mid-morning, Gadreel fished for sustenance, gathered fresh pine needles, returned to the peak in the evening, and finally back to his cave to rest. As uneventful as always, save for the strange reflection in the water.

Gadreel shook his head slightly as he woke up, conscious of extra weight on his head. He tried maneuvering his head trying to get rid of the extra weight to no avail. Gadreel lifted his lofty body and sauntered towards the cave entrance. A blizzard was raging outside, forcing Gadreel to stay within the safety of his home. Sighing, he headed back to his bed and closed his eyes. It was then that he heard a small yawn echo off the walls. Surprised, Gadreel shot up quickly and scanned his surroundings as best he could. He could see nothing in the darkness the cave offered, but he began to hear flapping and his head felt lighter.

Sariel, a small, lemon-coloured Spiral floated down to the ground in front of Gadreel and looked up at him with huge purple eyes. She gave the largest smile her tiny frame could muster and introduced herself to him. After the initial shock he warmly welcomed her. He learned that she had just moved to a nearby clan of ice dragons. She had just left to gather supplies when she saw the imperial day before. On her way back the blizzard hit and she was forced to find shelter. Understanding her plight Gadreel invited her stay and wait out the storm. Together they spoke of their travels to, and within, the Southern Icefields. They spoke of the past, and the present. Even of the future until their eyes became too heavy and their speech too slow. As sleep enveloped him, Gadreel's thoughts and dreams moved to his future with Sariel.

Morning came all too soon for the pair, but the sun was a welcoming sight. Upon leaving the cave, Sariel invited Gadreel to join her in the short journey to her clan. She was sure that the clan leader Sachiel would warmly welcome him. To his surprise, he agreed and together they headed towards Sariel's home.
