.⟦ Kindred ⟧ | #697 | Clan Role/Quote |
┌━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┐
Cripplingly shy as a young dragon, Kindred had hated the electric, eye-catching color of her scales. Wherever she went, dragons turned to look by instinct. She could feel their eyes watching her, wishing they’d just politely look away, and sometimes they did. But sometimes they kept staring, as if lost in a trance; sometimes they glared at her, as if the brilliant color of her scales was somehow under her control and she had chosen that particularly flashy green to draw their attention and annoy them. It didn’t take long before Kindred began avoiding public spaces altogether, and eventually decided to leave the Viridian Labyrinth, seeking a land where hiding in the shadows was part of cultural norm.
The Tangled Wood proved to be all she had hoped for… and more. She found a clan in the Driftwood Drag, several of whose members bore a similar striking coloration to her own. Spending time around these clan members meant Kindred no longer had to hide her scales, or feel the constant gaze of those around her. For the first time, she felt she could finally relax around other dragons, and realized that she quite enjoyed the company of her fellow clan members. Inspired by her new family and home, Kindred opened her own tea shop. The little shop quickly became a popular stop for everyone in her clan, and even those outside it. The exterior of the store was plain and unremarkable, equipped with a simple sign that bore its name: “A Kindred Cup.” Inside however, the tea shop was unlike any other. Its walls, floor, and ceiling were painted a fluorescent green, the same shocking hue as Kindred’s own scales, and it was decorated with cozy furniture to match. In this interior, visiting dragons found themselves staring at the decor rather than the shopkeeper, and Kindred could serve her patrons while feeling at home. Likewise, for other dragons with brightly-colored hides, the tea shop was a breath of fresh air, a sanctuary in which they could finally relax and unwind without feeling out of place. |
