Lullaby

A sweet, refined dragon. Lullaby had finer interests pre-Serenade’s lair, but she’s lost access to a lot of them now. it took her awhile to learn to do some of the tasks that were second nature to the others; Falsetta had hunted killed her whole life and could clean and gut a rabbit in minutes, meanwhile Lullaby would take all day to even manage to graze a squirrel’s tail. it brought her great frustration, but falsetta quickly found other uses for her. for example, Lullaby was learned and could read scrolls and texts; she also knew a great more than even she realized about things like where certain animals thrived and under which conditions; things she learned simply by reading and learning a great deal from her lavish teachings. The other dragons used this to their advantage to hunt better, to build the lair more adeptly, and even encouraged Lullaby to teach hatchlings to read. Lullaby was flustered by the attention at first but then relished the feeling of being useful and vital. In this way, she could pay Serenade back for her kindness

Not many know of Lullaby’s past. She’s been with the lair for a long time, but if you asked most, they would simply say that one day she wasn’t, the next she was. Only Serenade knows the full story, and is the reason why Lullaby has a place to stay at all these days.

Lullaby is actually from a prosperous family of a lightning lair. Her parents were actually a family of extremely royal standing; Lullaby had the content life of a princess. However, it was not to last. Unbeknownst to the young Lullaby, her parents were actually terrible while in control, greedy and corrupt with their power. The other dragons of their lair and surrounding lairs under their influence eventually revolted, and ousted the family in a coup d’état. Though Lullaby was no accomplice, the crowd that was after them was bloodthirsty. Serenade was actually there that day, not on the front lines, as she was still very young, but she was aiding the efforts from the sidelines.

When she spotted the child running away, no more than a year or two younger than herself, she drew her aside and helped her run away. Once they had escaped the violence, Lullaby wept and begged to see her family. Serenade consoled her but admitted she would have to hide for awhile; it was simply too dangerous to go back to what had been her home. However, Serenade offered her a new one with open arms and a warm embrace. Lullaby took time to become accustomed to the warm, natural haven that was so different from her original palace, but slowly, it became familiar. She had to hide everything of who she was there, so no one was told more than her name, but it was hard to hide who she had become. She was unskilled in all laborious tasks, and still had an unanswered yearning for jewelry and finer things that Serenade could not fulfill.

Falsetta was one of the few to take a liking to her, however. Falsetta was easy going and relaxed, and about her age. Falsetta was a noble knight in training and was very polite to Lullaby, as she was taught to be. She also immediately noticed that, even though she was now in Serenade’s court, Lullaby clearly came from high standings. However, Lullaby enjoyed the feeling of praise, which she was accustomed to receiving, as nobility. The two got along well, though at times Falsetta could be overly polite. They became close.

When Lullaby had been at the lair for about half a year, Falsetta surprised her with a gift of simple pearl jewelry. “Not much, but I thought you’d like it” was all she would say. They were worth hundreds of times less than the things Lullaby used to own, but… somehow, she’d never owned something as valuable. She continues to wear them even to this day.
