Chatter
Unique Specimen
Curious | Social | Unwise
An unusual creature, of confusing and unclear breed. Feathers and crests co-exist on their ill-proportioned body, which is supported by a frequently faulty skeleton. The scientists believe the most likely case is that they were once a Mirror, or are the result of a failed breed change into one.
It is thought that Chatter received little socialization as a hatchling, and lived in relative isolation up until they were taken into the custody of the government. They are extroverted, and will gain interest in anyone, especially when gifts are up for offer. They aren't discerning when it comes to the behavior of others, and will tolerate cruelty and even physical violence for the sake of interaction. They even get along with the surgeons who performed their vivisection, as long as they are out of uniform; lab coats now cause them distress.
Named for the chatters, clicks, and garbles they make; many hours of study revealed these not to be a completely random assortment of sounds, but instead something resembling a language. It bears similarities to Coatl humming, as well as to some Harpy-Draconic pidgins, but is not mutually intelligible with any known language.
Has a lot to share, if anyone cared to try to understand.
They're far, far older than they seem.
