Cynic was born an orphan, his father long since gone and his mother having died just days before he hatched. His mother had lived a nomadic lifestyle, and had no clan to call her own, passing down that life of loneliness onto her children. Cynic's siblings didn't last a week, out in the cold of the tundra. It was only by the grace of the Icewarden and the little guardian's hope that he survived, kept warm by the ever-sleeping figures of his long-gone siblings. It was a brutal way to come into this life, and a far worse way to go out, but he lived long enough on his own to be found by a group of wanderers who came across him as they were setting up camp. The small group called themselves the Shadowlings, for each one of them had special talents that allowed them to sneak about without ever being caught, and it made for a wonderful tool to aid them in their journeys. The Shadowlings were bounty hunters, wandering the world and taking on odd jobs of hunting down criminals and bringing them to justice. Brannigan was a master with blades of all types, able to take down his enemies in a whirlwind of flurrying limbs that seemed just too quick for an ordinary dragon to be able to do, and if you weren't paying close enough attention, you could miss him entirely. Severin was the muscle, stronger than the rest of them combined, and was particularly useful in battle against more than one opponent. He was a beast by all accounts, massive and frightening in appearance, but truthfully, he was the sweetest of the group. And Trinn, the doting mother figure of their dysfunctional little family, was a master wizard. Her vast magical knowledge allowed her to render herself practically invisible, and from the shadows she would stalk her prey, often capturing them without need for the boys' fighting skills. Cynic called the Shadowlings family for much of his childhood, growing up alongside them as they traveled, and learning everything he could from them, hoping one day to become a full-fledged member of their group. But tragedy struck snd took them from him all too soon when one of their marks turned out to be more clever than expected, and caused a horrific rockslide which the three of them perished in. Their mark escaped unharmed, and Cynic was left alone once more. Years passed as he grew up, going at it alone for the first time in his life, just himself against the world. But he traveled, still, and he learned. And when the time was right, he hunted down that same criminal that had taken his family from him, and got the vengeance he so yearned for. |
