The morning air stirred, as if from someone's touch. It was as if the very fabric of the universe had been damaged, spawning countless mirages gathered in one small place. Then the air shuddered again, attracting the gaze of the red skydancer, and, finally, under the tired sigh of the male, the mirage formed into a familiar silhouette. The second skydancer disappeared for a few moments, then reappeared, but not whole. The contours of her silhouette periodically blurred, like a corrupted picture on an old monitor. She flickered like this for several seconds, until she finally managed to freeze in one position and fix her essence in this dimension. As soon as the dragons' eyes met, Chance smiled childishly with all her teeth and hung in the air above Nathaniel, without making a single beat of her wings. She will never need wings to fly again.

“I've found a new f̰̰̯͕͊̃̊͞͞͞ṛ̣̬̫̍͌ͩ͟i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧn̫̫̘̗͕̲̲̎ͥd̶̵̯̯̼̘ͨ̓!” she shared cheerfully.

“I won't feed another hyena you dragged from another mass grave! They love it there, they're scavengers, stop torturing me,” the dragon rolled his eyes and moved away from the annoying dragoness. “And the animals too…”

“But Lucy isn't a hyena! She is,” Chance protested and was immediately interrupted.

“Gods, save my patience. Have you given the beast a name?”

“She was a͔͔̜̗̦ͩ̅̎l͖͖̰̝ͭ̀͘o͙͙̙̘̙ͤͫ͞n̫̫̘̗͕̲̲̎ͥḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧ in a scrapyard! Sad and wandering in the middle of a wasteland of dead robots! She was

“You are responsible for feeding and walking. And it will not live in my house.” Nathaniel gave in, not wanting to hear the tearful story of someone who had only recently come to be perceived as “not-quite-enemy”.

The dragoness flapped her wings happily and drew an imaginary eight in the air before she landed right in front of Nat. However, when their eyes met again, she pursed her lips and tucked her wings slightly awkwardly.

“Chance?”

“About feeding…” she drawled, as if guiltily. “Your a͔͔̜̗̦ͩ̅̎l͖͖̰̝ͭ̀͘c̨̨̣̮̝̈́̔ͯ̀͂h̨͚͚͖ͯ̒̄͗͞ḛ̡̰̳͓̥ͬ͋ͪͧm̰̰̹͚̙̂ͦ͗͠i̧̻̻͉̜͑ͪ̾͟c̨̨̣̮̝̈́̔ͯ̀͂a͔͔̜̗̦ͩ̅̎l͖͖̰̝ͭ̀͘ set…”

The dragoness flapped her wings in fright, tried to shout something in excuse, but her silhouette flickered again, her voice was distorted by interference, and after a few seconds the mirage again swallowed her body, slightly distorting the air where Chance had just recently stood.
Nathaniel bared his teeth, but soon he just let out a long sigh, lowering his wings in exhaustion. He still doesn't understand why he keeps hanging out with Chance. He was wondering how she copes with the new reality in which she found herself through her stupidity? Or maybe it was just easier for him to live next to someone who understood him more than anything else.
Oh, if only she knew how similar they were.
