A Vessel is defined by its contents.

There is no light without dark and no life without decay. Little Sapwood knows this better than most. Her people carry the blood of the Behemoth within their very bodies, taking it deep into the dark, ensuring life springs where even the sun cannot reach. Given time her family will take the sap of nature into every corner of Sornieth. With each generation born away from the Gladekeeper's woods, knowledge is gained, connections made and seeds planted. Sapwood has brought her family's gathered secrets home to the ancestral forest.

The Saplings

Once upon a time, a child was sent forth from her family to fulfill an ancient oath. Back, back, at the dawn of time, when the all the world was new, when the sun was dim and the earth was bare, her people had sworn to carry the sapblood of their holiest Tree into the lands beyond their home, to bring life and growth to every place they found. This magic was not carried in a bottle, or a vial, but rather in their very bodies, making them vessels of unstoppable life. They swore they would reach to every end of the world, and when they had met every people and seen every land, they would return, with knowledge and secrets and faith. And so the day came, and the child was born, and seen to be brimming with green magic. She went forth, and traced the paths her parents and grandparents and forebears had tread, the long road home to the forest where life began.

Once upon a time, a child was born with the sap of the Tree running in his veins, so rich and vibrant it could be seen even upon his barky skin. He was born at night, and the night sky fell through his wings and scales, and the night forest claimed him as its guardian. He lived in the forest and tended its trees and plants and creatures. One night as the stars broke the sky one by one, he came upon another child born to serve the Tree, but never had he seen one with eyes so deep and dark. His green gaze met with eyes of shadow, purple and unknown.

Two trees grow in a forest, both alike in dignity. The night is full of secrets, and if you are very quiet, you may hear them whispering to each other even now.
