Biography
Zanzibar
The Sorcerer "The Council needs you, Zanzibar. I'm asking you to reconsider." Zanzibar scoffed, shifting back to face his superior. A preposterous notion, that; the only thing that King was better at than he was being terrifically old, and even then, only by a few decades. Superior indeed! "It was never my place, Magus. I knew from the beginning what would happen, that the Council would become mired in political nonsense and never be able to accomplish any actual work. That's what you left to me - the work." Zanzibar was a fair bit larger than the old Magus, but years of leadership had given King a decidedly imposing presence. He did not like that one bit. He took a step back as King stepped forward. "I do what I must to protect this place, and the world. The Temper has endured much, but I fear..." King stepped past him, his gaze fixing to the window. The tower they stood in was one of only three in the Temper that were tall enough to sit above the ash clouds. Were it not for the ashes and dust, the particulate remnants of the once-great nation of Gneiss, that window would see straight out to the Witherlands. Zanzibar was glad for the clouds, then. "Zanzibar, the Temper is fracturing. Relayer has declared his intention to stay at Laccolith; as far as I'm concerned, that's open declaration of allegiance to the Queen. And the princess..." "Ah yes, your little protégé. She's not coming, is she?" King turned to glare, but only for a moment. Zanzibar went on. "I just don't see why it has to be me, Magus. Just because I'm old? Afraid of a little young blood in your politicking?" King remained solid as a statue, staring out as though he could see right through the clouds and into that poisoned land. "Perhaps you're right," King sighed, and Zanzibar nearly jumped with surprise. "I know you're no politician. I just feel that I need people I can trust. I'm running out of people I can trust, Zanzibar." King turned back around, and his eyes seemed somehow darker than before. "I fear the Lich of Caldera is returning," He said finally. A long pause followed; the name hung in the air, stealing the breath from their lungs like ash clouds outside. "Are you certain? King, look at me. Are you certain?" The Magus only nodded. "How much time do we have?" "That, I do not know. The Witherlands are stirring, more and more horrors are rising from the bog every day. They have not yet learned how to escape, but it's only a matter of time." King's stare seemed a thousand miles away. "Only a matter of time." "We must prepare, then. Civil war be damned, this is too important. We must-" Zanzibar stopped, stooping down to look his friend in the eye. "King, what do we do?" The Magus met his gaze for a moment. "There is something you can do for me," He said. "Other than joining the council, that is. I didn't put all my eggs in one nest with the princess, you know. There's a young applicant I'd like you to meet." "Sorcerer of the dark moon Who dare incur his rage? First child of the scorpion Prophet of the crystal age" Styx, Man of Miracles |
