The Spiral balanced atop her metallic creation, fiddling with colored wires and muttering to herself. She could practically feel all her long hours in the workshop, countless sleepless nights pouring over schematics, and endless negotiations with suppliers falling into place. As she tightened the last few nuts and bolts, she felt a monetary rush of nerves. What if all that work had been for nothing? Brushing her fears aside and letting her more dominant, practical mind take over, Saphira unwound herself from the towering machine and grabbed the controls. The moment of truth had come.
Saphira inherited her love of inventing from her mother. Lacking Listig’s Lightning flight heritage, however, Saphira infused her work instead with the bit of Nature magic she possessed. Despite the general consensus that machinery and vegetation don’t mesh well together; somehow, Saphira figured out how to make it work. Of course, she was familiar with the sting of failure as well, but over time, she’d perfected her craft, creating functional yet beautiful machines, full of life. The towering invention that stood before her now had been designed for the nesting grounds. Its large size and considerable strength would serve to protect young dragons from harm while smaller compartments on its metallic body would open to reveal tasty snacks, fresh water, or even cleverly designed puzzles. For the final touch, Saphira used her magic to cover the entire thing in a carpet of thick, lush moss, thus transforming the robot into the perfect hatchling jungle gym. Saphira beamed as she watched her creation stir to life for the first time at the touch of a button. |
