Rotten egg. Bad seed. Menace. Terror. Demon spawn.
Anwir had heard the names that others called him, even from an early age. And he was determined to live up to them. The Ridgeback was a menace to his parents from the moment he was born, taking a chomp out of his sibling that nearly killed him, if not for the quick action of the clan healer. From that day forward, Anwir’s parents kept a close eye on him, but they soon realized they were out of their depth. The “little devil”, as they somewhat affectionately called him at first, was exceptional at sneaking away from them and wreaking havoc upon the other hatchlings in the clan’s nesting grounds. When Eupohnia, the nest guardian, caught him smashing eggs in a nearby nest one day, it was the final straw. She delivered an ultimatum to his parents: the tiny terror had to go. Entirely too pleased with himself at the havoc he’d wreaked, Anwir showed no remorse for his actions. Despite being forcibly exiled from his birthclan, he was eager to expand his dominion, to terrorize the world beyond clan borders. Before long, Anwir was not so little anymore, and his crimes grew with him-- from smashing eggs to smashing skulls. He became the leader of his own notorious gang and racked up a considerable sum of fame and treasure. Not that the money mattered to him, he simply enjoyed being the bad guy. There was no possibility of redemption for the Ridgeback tyrant, no remorse for his wicked ways-- he wanted no part of that. Instead, he was proud. Proud that he had lived up to the names others gave him. Proud of the devil he had become. |
