Biography

You trek cautiously upstairs, Patches' words weighing heavily on your mind. If the glassy-eyed Puppet wasn't the only one to hear movement from up here, then you'd better keep your eyes peeled for any sort of activity.

You are abruptly pulled from your thoughts by a sharp squeak that reverberates down the long hallway, emanating from one of the left side doors. You jump, but gather yourself and follow the sound.

As you trek down the hall, you make note of several interesting-looking rooms along the way. One looks to be a library of sorts, another is completely barren except for a single rug in the center of the room, and yet another seems to be a sewing work room filled to the brim with scraps of fabric and supplies for putting Puppets together.

Passing by these rooms, you continue down the hall to the door you think you heard the noises from. When you open it, you enter a dingy looking bedroom that seems like it hasn't been used in many years. Well, the last clue did tell you to look in a bedroom, so this seems like as good a place as any to start looking! A thick layer of dust covers the furniture, and the musty scent of times long past hangs in the air. You eye the room suspiciously - nothing - but you could have sworn the squeaking noise came from here!

As you scan the room, you notice at least one thing that seems suspicious. A small paw print is outlined in the dust covering the nightstand on the far side of the bed. You squint at it, and choose to open the drawer just in case.

Inside is the body of a small puppet dragon. Its glassy red and green eyes stare up at you, unblinking and unconscious. Maybe this is who was making the noise before they fell back under the spell? You start to close the drawer, but not before you notice a small scrap of paper trapped beneath its tiny body. Picking the paper up and turning it over, you are able to make out the numbers 1_445. It looks like one of the numbers is missing... strange. What could that mean? It might be best to see what Patches' thinks.

You exit the room and begin to head down the stairs and back to the store room. As you take your first step, faint laughter rings out behind you. You turn sharply to look, but no one is there. Better get back downstairs quickly! There's no telling what's going on in this house…

When you return to the storage room, you hand the paper to Patches. He reads it, poking at it with dusty paws before a lightbulb seems to go off in his head.

“OH!!,” he exclaims! “I didn’t say anything about this because it didn’t seem important before, but Alaric… the Puppet Master… he marks each of the items in the house with a sort of makeshift serial number. I think it must help him keep things organized for spells. The number here on the paper looks like it could be one of those codes! Maybe if we figure out what object it corresponds to, we can figure out where to look next! He uses this really strange mathematical system to help him generate the numbers... but we can use it to our advantage too! If we use the same equation that he does, then we should be able to figure out the missing number!
