Random bits:
- I wanted him to be a fanderg of that Lovecraft character, but he went and developed his own bonkers backstory, as they all do.
- Born to a tiny but ambitious clan of assassins, which his parents were the founders of. Five kids in total: North, South, East, West (this boy!), and Rose. (It fits the theme, I swear. Also, no, not this Rose.)
- West was very proud of his assassin parents, and he wanted to grow up to be just like them! :'D Parents also wanted to keep expanding operations and were determined that West and his siblings should also become assassins someday.
- And then one day The Parents both bungled a job and ended up getting injured and caught by their target. Oops.
- Instead of killing them, target was very merciful and gently nursed them back to health.
- Parents were allowed to return safely to their clan. Exceeeept their near-death experience and subsequent recovery had been major Come-to-RNGesus moments for them, and they decided that they and their family would no longer be assassins.
- Instead, they would be physicians.
- Little bratty teenage West was horrified (siblings didn't care either way). "But Mom and Daaaaaad, I wanna be a ninjaaaaaaa!"
- But he didn't have it in him to rebel against his parents (especially since he could see where they were coming from, though he would die rather than admit it), so off to med school he went, pouting all the way.
- Worked and studied hard, because he did want to make his parents proud, regardless of career. Is now a very skilled surgeon and serves the Disillusionists in this capacity.
- Never really ditched the pouting, though, and now his face and attitude are stuck that way. Nobody cares, because he's good at his job and isn't really all that mean to people.
- His familiar snuggles with the patients while they're recuperating. It's a lot nicer than he is!
- Still pretty dangerous when enraged. Has forgotten all his assassination techniques...but that doesn't really matter when he's got dozens of scalpels and knows where to stab people with them.
