SDLZveX.gif History

Merric was the first Dragon to discover the Aeolians, though they were not called that then. He is a fisher, and was traveling the Windswept Plateau. He is reserved, and has never loved too much noise and craziness. Thus, when his original Clan began to expand to hundreds of Dragons, he left to look for a new home. Merric enjoyed wandering the Plateau, it was quiet and peaceful. However, he was starting to run out of treasure, and Merric wasn’t that great of a hunter. So he thought it would be a good time to find a new home. He spent weeks searching for the perfect Clan, but none struck him as perfect–until one day, he found a single Dragon family, deep within the bamboo on the Zephyr Steppes. They immediately invited him to stay for a while, and began to get to know the blue Guardian. Merric loved the little family–Aethyr, who seemed to be the one in charge, obviously cared for her mate Dusk and their four Hatchlings. He asked Aethyr and Dusk if they were in the need of someone to help with their fishing, and they both agreed readily–neither of them knew how to fish. Thus, Merric found his new home, which seemed to him more a family than a Clan. It was quiet and peaceful (aside from the occasional Tengu battle), and he liked the Dragons there.

Merric didn’t mind that his new family was there because Aethyr had been exiled. As far as he saw, not being able to fly was no reason to be exiled. Plus, Aethyr wasn’t afraid to fly any longer, and he felt that they were staying separate from the old Clan because they wanted to, not because they were Exiles.

Later on, Merric decided that no longer appreciated his Guardian form. He kept feeling a desire to find a Charge, but Merric didn’t want to go on the Search. He wanted to stay where he was with the Dragons he was with, and so when the desire became unbearable he searched for other options. He found one–if he became a different breed, he would lose all the instincts of a Guardian. He found a nice cheap magical scroll that would turn him into a Nocturne, and he considered the pros and cons. He would be a lot less able to fight in battles, and he might copy other Dragons without realizing it, and he wouldn’t be quite as capable of a swimmer, but he thought the mobility and speed the new form would provide would be enjoyable, and he could dive for fish instead of swimming, or perhaps fashion tools to help him with his much more dextrous paws. Merric made his decision. He transformed into a Nocturne that very day, and he never regretted it. Especially when a beautiful young Nocturne named Mira joined the Aeolians (for they had earned their name by this point). They became mates, and even though the Clan was growing louder and noisier, Merric decided that he would stay for good.

windv4.png Information
Name // Merric Zionsen
-- Origin of name // Merric means “Dark Skinned” or “Fame” and neither are exactly true of Merric. His scales are bright blue, which doesn’t match the first meaning, and he would do anything to avoid the second. He doesn’t enjoy attention, and would never pursue fame.

Age // 2 Years
-- Birthday // June 26, 2021

Occupation // Fisher

Role // Citizen

Personality // Merric is a reserved Dragon, who loves his own alone time, and prefers quiet situations to loud ones. He isn’t the most talkative either, and some Dragons feel awkward around him since he says very little. Merric doesn’t usually feel awkward though, he just considers it companionable silence. He is fast-learning, and if he sets his mind to learning anything, chances are he can accomplish it and do it well. He seems to have a whole encyclopedia of interesting facts memorized. Merric is also insightful–he typically can look at what he knows about a Dragon, and identify their motivators, their biggest flaws and virtues, and their mood. He uses this knowledge to help others.
