Seething pain. That was the first memory Veil had. Dipped into bubbling green and yellow, her wings, frills and eyes burning and tearing and mutating. She couldn’t cry because her eyes were too busy restructuring. She could hear deafening cries, but she didn’t realize at the time they were her own.
Veil’s first memory was being dipped into the Wyrmwound.

Her second memory was running and falling down a tunnel, and landing in front of a huge form. “Papa?” she asked, frightened and half-blind and looking for someone to trust, or somewhere to hide. She remembered staring up at the blurry form as one head nodded and the other mumbled incoherently. “Yes, papa’s here," it whispered in a comforting tone, "you’re safe now. Just stay here, and I’ll find a spot for you to rest. Do you have a name, child?”

She shook her head.
“I’ll call you Veil, then,” the form said, “A nice name, don’t you think?”
