When she was a young dragon, the last thing Dawnfire wanted was responsibility, so she left her birth clan and began traveling around the world. When she found a hatchling with no other home, Dawnfire took her along on her journeys. But as years passed, Dawnfire discovered that she wanted to belong again to something more permanent.

After she and Monarch joined a clan, Dawnfire worked hard to prove to herself that she could take this new phase of her life seriously. Soon, she found dragons coming to her with their problems so that she could think it over and give them advice. As Dawnfire got more involved with the clan, though, Monarch started pulling away. Eventually Monarch admitted that she had wanted Dawnfire to be a mother for her when she was younger, not just a friend. She had decided that she would leave the clan and go travel on her own for an undecided amount of time, until she felt she could be around Dawnfire again without feeling bitter. Although it hurt, Dawnfire let her go.

Dawnfire is now a respected elder within the clan. As she gets older, she finds herself grateful that her traveling days are over and that she has a steady place to rest and call home. Monarch didn’t contact her for a few years after she first left, but eventually she came home for a tearful reunion. Dawnfire has realized that she can do better for Monarch, so she’s currently trying to take some of the advice that she gives others and use it herself. They’re working on their relationship, with mixed success. Monarch still travels and is gone most of the year, but she visits when she can. In the earlier years of her life, Dawnfire never thought that she would end up being this happy.
