Biography

CHARLEMAGNE

The warm taste of summer is on the air and Charlemagne's heart is soaring in a way that only hearts with grand adventures before them soar. He stands with his claws clasped over the fine leather bag he has looped over one shoulder and he adjusts it carefully.

Is it just him or is his heart racing?

Charlemagne shakes his head, lifting his paws to gently tap the cheeks of his face. Not quite the wake up slap that his mate Fiala does to snap herself out of her funks. More of a gentle little touch, almost just cupping his face, but he's always had a good face. It's maybe even the best part of him! Well, maybe not. That might be his unquenchable thirst for adventure.

The veilspun stands on top of the tree that overlooks the guild hall's quarters in Nature Flight's territory. He has his tail coiled around the narrow branch of one of the trees, it bends when he sways his weight every now and again, prepares himself for the jump.

"Ya gonna go?" The two voices that rasp the words make Charlemagne shriek in surprise. He whips around and he branch snaps and for a second he's about to plummet to the ground. But then he feels a claw around his ankle, and Charlemagne is twisting his head to stare into the strange eyes of his young apprentice.

"Roz! You startled me!" Charlemagne says heatedly, if the young aberration notices she doesn't say anything. She merely lifts him up, twists him about in her claws and then places him gently on the branch of the tree they're in. Charlemagne huffs as he dusts himself off, trying to ignore the heat under his scales. "Of course I'm leaving. I have the chance to make it on a grand adventure. And no, you can't come with me. Hatchlings aren't allowed on missions."

Roz tips both of her heads to opposite sides. The aberrations hums thoughtfully, and then it is her most thoughtful head that says, "And are you going alone?"

The other head pipes up immediately, "Even adults aren't allowed to go on missions alone."

Charlemagne opens his mouth, shuts it again, lifts a claw and opens his mouth again, and then snaps it shut. He doesn't really have an answer to that, because he is planning on going alone. Roz knows all of his close friends enough to make lying to her especially difficult. He tries to think of someone who Roz isn't close to that he might be able to bluff that he's going on this adventure with;

"Of course not. I'm going with..." he scrambles mentally for a name. "I'm going on an adventure with.... Eclipse."

Roz's heads glance at one another and then back at Charlemagne, incredulous. Still, Charlemagne continues with his fib, putting on the most confident face he can muster. Even if the corners of his mouth are twitching a little and he's fidgeting with his bag.

"Yes, with Eclipse. He's showing me around the uh, the Plague Flight's territory," Charlemagne lets out a nervous laugh. How is he so bad at lying? He's meant to be good at this. It's one of the main things bards do! "He wanted a musician about to lighten the mood."

Roz's expressions are incredulous, one head starts; "He wants to..."

"Lighten the mood?" The other finishes.

"Yes! We have! Ah, anyway. I have to be off Roz, don't want to keep him waiting," Charlemagne titters, and then he launches off the branch. He somehow manages to trip while in the air, and lets out a nervous laugh before he continues on his way.

So what, running into Roz wasn't a bad thing. It was just what he needed to kick himself in the tail. Next up, adventure!
