Biography
Lore:
On the slopes of a desolate plain, a sweet flute twirled a note.
“Come one, come all to the Teatime Talon!” Only silence answered the young Coatl. “Tea to wet your parched throat! Join me for a reprieve from this lonely desert!” Her spirits sank as she wondered as to whether she would be allowed to join the clan. Nami hurried into the back room. “Mother! Father! There’s no one around today.” Skylar and Relin paused in the midst of their muted argument, and turned to face her.
“Nami, Nami, you’re a practical young woman. Don’t you agree that far-fetched magic tricks are a waste of time?” Relin shook his gear-adorned wings at her. “Mechanics...now that’s a passion worth pursui-”
“Well, it would be if you didn’t wreck everything you built at one time or another! My talent creates, nourishes. It’s kept us alive all these ye-”
“Because of my help!” The two collapsed into silence, both pouting at the other.
“There’s no one for tea. We need to relocate again.” Relin turned slowly, eyes hidden beneath an expensive metal helmet.
“No one? But we’re in such a metropolis! Padatrin? Is that what it’s called?”
“Paladtrine. We left months ago.”
“Well then, where are we?”
“The Shadewaste Expanse.”
Skylar leapt up, whooping incoherently. Only after she had been thoroughly calmed down would she explain. “Nami was born here! That’s why she has her eyes. I lived here! I can hel-”
“With magic, perhaps?” As the argument began again, Nami muttered excuses and walked out, bumping into a traveler.
“I’m so sorry, ma’am. Would you like some tea?” As she stared into the eyes of the beautifully adorned simile, she realized that they both carried tea trays. “Or, um-”
“I’m terribly sorry to be eavesdropping, but it sounds like you need a new home.”
Nami was born to parents that loved each other but despised their interests. Nami was a middle ground, inviting them both to tea whenever their irksome nature became hotheaded and hateful. They constantly moved, Skylar and Relin following uselessly as she set up shop after shop, never stopping. Though Nami suspected that they had enemies of some sort or another, she never voiced her concerns, and they never explained the need for moving.
A mysterious traveler who introduced herself as Buttercup invited Nami to join her clan, and, after many more arguments, it was decided that Nami would join Buttercup while Skylar and Relin went their own ways. On the long journey to the Zephyr Steppes, where she knew she would find a new family, she managed to tame and befriend a five-toed pilco, who she named Willow after the tree he was found beneath. When she finally arrived, dragons and familiars alike were welcoming and kind.
Nami still saw her family from time to time, but was allowed to pursue her love of cooking with Buttercup, and her amount of self-love and confidence inspires others to be similar.
