Glaiden and the King.
h8Yow0U.pngicemidsmall2.png
Once the noble and great king of Glaiden, known for his humility, love of his citizens and his willingness to forgive, Reiden now seems to be a shadow of his former self to most, now untrusting of most strangers and impossibly reserved. Deep down his glory days are still ahead, waiting for the right moment.

Glaiden, a kingdom close to the Fortress of ends. The dragons that once lived there were resilient, surviving the harshest and most violent of snowstorms, warding off plagues, and most importantly, made peace with the clans around it, making it a central hub of trading goods and services. Reiden lived a fairly quiet life in his years as a hatchling, a prince fit to be a king, his servants held him at high regard and he too thanked them greatly for their services.

His father, the king before him, taught him to lead, to have compassion for his fellow dragons and the ways of a king. While his mother taught him the ways of the land, how to hunt and gather to support those around him and to bend to natures will, instead of attempting to force a power greater than himself to buckle to his ideals.

When his mother and father passed Reidan quickly took to the role he was born and trained to be, he wore the title of King with pride, and quickly thereafter, found himself a queen. Whom he had a son and two daughters with, he took the role as both a father and a leader with grace, and, just like his father previously, the dragons of Glaiden quickly suspected he would go down in history as one of their best...
Or at least that's what they thought would happen.

The Disappearances.

Seasons passed and years went by, Glaiden continued to grow under Raidans wings, but, the announcement of newcomers brought danger.
It started with one, a singular Gaoler with piercing eyes and a dark pelt, Raidan had heard the rumours of the ancient species but payed no mind. Any dragon was welcomed into Glaidens walls if they meant no harm.
Soon reports of disappearances started to crop up, first one, a Skydancer, last seen in the marketplace. A search patrol for the dragon was sent, then they went missing too. For the first time Glaiden went into a state of lockdown, no dragon was allowed to leave their den until the cause of the disappearances was found and brought to justice.
Unsatisfied with any of the evidence brought up Raidan went on his own search, just like the other parties, nothing came up. He left dejected, uncertain of his next move.

With no news of the true cause, every dragon seemed to forget the cause of the lockdown, Glaiden quickly went back to normal, its streets once again shifting with colour.
One more month passed, and Raidan grew more and more restless, fearing an attack on his people for reasons not even he knew. Still, he tried to appreciate the return to normalcy and supported his kingdom the best he could.

A Fallen Kingdom.

One night, that's all it took for hundreds of dragons hard work and livelihoods to be destroyed, just as Reidan had suspected an army of Gaolers had been sent, the leader howled of talk about the kingdom and its people being "Shade-touched". Before Reidan the normally cheerful marketplace and dens were littered with growling dragons, biting, scratching or casting spells at the heavy pelted enemy. Guardians roared, swearing to protect their charge and the Skydancers tried their best to heal their wounded brethren.
Before the denizens processed what had happened, a portion of the Gaoler swarm had infiltrated the palace, they moved as one group with one goal, total destruction of the dragons of Glaiden, including the monarchs.

Raidan had barely processed the events, it had happened in an instant, before he could think three Gaolers launched at him, Raidan shrugged one off and clawed at one that had latched firmly onto his chest, it growled and called out to the largest of the group.
Raiden watched in horror as it sprang into action, latching down onto his throat hard, he choked out a gasp as it bit down harder, Raidan went limp, acting as if the Gaoler had managed to kill him, and to his surprise they all stopped, they whispered for a moment on what they should do before seemingly unanimously deciding that if he wasn't dead now the Imperial would be by the morning from bloodloss.

Raidan heaved a sigh of relief when he watched the three Gaolers leave. He was mere moments from death, and although he wanted to help his fellow dragons down below he knew he would die before even making it to town. He felt faint, as he tried to get up he collapsed, quickly falling unconscious.

Aftermath.

To even his own surprise, Reidan woke up, seemingly days later. He shouldn't have lived, it must have been through some miracle, maybe a healing spell had been redirected somehow. But, nonetheless he was alive, Reidan struggled to get up, his claws gripping tight onto the carpet as he forced his wounded body to stand, wincing in pain as the various wounds that covered his body were stretched.

Reidan tried to block the horrific sense of guilt and mourning that flooded his mind as he tracked out of the palace and into the lairs and marketplace below in search of other survivors or any sign of his kin. All he found were the lifeless corpses of his brethren, not even a scent of his wife or children. His kingdom and family, in a mere matter of a single night had been snuffed out like a candle. There were less corpses than there were in the kingdoms population, he knew that much. But knowing the Gaolers, any survivors would have been turned into prisoners of the Icewarden. Reidan didn't know what to do except cry out and accept that his peaceful life had been destroyed in just a single fateful night, there was nothing he could do alone to save his people.

An Alliegience.

Although he had a very heavy heart in doing so, Reidan had come to the tough and horrible decision to leave his kingdom, hopefully to find some clan that would take him in at least until he recovered, maybe they would help him attempt to save his people. He had already decided against seeking shelter in an ice flights lair, he did not want to cause another war.
So he began to move, he eventually found himself in the Arcane flights territory, eventually coming to the conclusion that even that was too close to the Gaoler swarm, he continued on past Arcane territory and finally stopped at the border of the Wind flight, close, but not so close that he'd be easily recognised.

After many nights of just walking, occasionally hunting fish or other sources of food he came across a large valley, hidden away from the rest of the world. From up top he could see large dens and dragons of all species communicating, he tried to eyeball who the leader could possibly be, finally setting his sights on a large, navy blue Imperial.
Raiden approached calmly, trying not to make any of the dragons smell any form of ill intent, but surprisingly despite only being a small lair they seemed to greet him like an old friend.

Things seemed like they might get better from now on, he'd gladly retire his crown if it meant he'd have something to protect.
