Bubble Pop is a Plague native, an abandoned hatch picked up by the Killjoys on their travels. She rolls with the gang through the wastes, riding the caravan and running on the radio. Bubble Pop is a Killjoy through and through--she never felt the call of the Icewarden to the Fortress of Ends and never met a member of the Gaoler orders before Kona joined the clan. Although she welcomed Kona warmly, unlike some of her Killjoy brethren, she was not given such warmth in return. She doesn't understand him, and his particular ways. Their personalities diverge strongly, but Bubble Pop finds companionship with Jukebox Hero and Sorario Days instead. Kona is the only Gaoler who adheres to the orders in the Killjoy ranks, and seems to be struggling with it more with every passing month. Bubble Pop for her part loves the freedom she as with the Killjoy ranks. She loves to sing and dance and dig out tunnels and dens as the clan moves from site to site. Her flanks and wings are wrapped in band-aids from the scratches she incurs from her efforts in moving the earth without matching magic. But all is not sunshine for Bubble Pop. Her tough Gaoler body is not fully adapted to the challenges found in Plague in surprising ways. The small animals and the rich fungi abundant in the scarred wastelands are not the same as the tough grasses and lean meats found in the southern icefields. Although her activity is high, she will sometimes find herself feeling lightheaded, or feel her energy crash without reason or warning. Her sphinx companion can smell when her blood runs thin and sticky, saving Bubble Pop a day or more of seizures and lethargy. The local alchemist Trouble Gum and Takeshi, the healer, have found a way to simulate the missing or underproduced parts of her blood. Those life-saving injections account for the band-aids that Bubble Pop's digging can't explain. She wears these badges with pride, knowing that she has found a way to survive the wastes with the help of her clan. |
