ABOUT

▾ Tonic is a sericulturist, or silkworm farmer. The Galehart clan are known for exporting fine textiles and raw wool, and Tonic was born into a community of talented shepherds, spinners, and weavers. He is small and skittish, though, and easily overwhelmed by large creatures and bright lights, so he is ill-suited for working with livestock. Still, he developed a passion growing up for very fine, delicate fibercraft, and began keeping silkworms as a hobby. Soon, his hobby expanded until he decided to make a career off his mutually beneficial relationship with his worms. Tonic tends a small grove of mulberry trees, whose leaves he uses to feed the worms and whose berries he helps feed his clan with. The worms grow fat and happy, and when they spin their luxurious cocoons, Tonic allows some to survive to maturity and propagate, harvesting others for their silk and eating the leftover grubs. He spends a lot of time near Sage's teahouse and lives in a quiet den amidst his mulberry trees, coming out at night to light small lanterns to attract his moths so he can watch them flutter ethereally while he spins their silk by lamplight.
