Katrun is very happy to speak to you. She gives you a cup of tea and sets you down on one of her piles of pillows. “I don’t get to talk to other travelers a lot anymore.”, she tells you. “Not a lot of dragons here ever left the city before, let alone traveled through multiple different regions of Sornieth.” You ask her about her travels and how she ended up here and she starts happily blabbing about her travels. Seriously, Katrun tells you loads of stories, but you don’t mind it. “Finally though, I entered Cermestro.”, Katrun eventually tells you. “I had been traveling for a while, and I was pretty tired. The hatchlings here really needed some guidance and the city’s leaders were happy to have me! I got my own lair and a space from where I can teach the children all kinds of life skills. It’s a great life really.” You nod, not because that’s your life, but because you think that it sounds great. Katrun refills your teacup without even asking.

After taking a sip from your fresh, and hot, cup of tea, you decide to carefully ask a risky question. You think about how to phrase it for quite some time, but then ask Katrun if she has ever thought of leaving the city. Katrun puts down her own cup of tea and studies you. “So, you know that we can’t leave.”, she replies. It’s the reply you are hoping to hear. “The hatchlings have told me about the gates, but whatever I seem to do, I can’t see them.”, she continues. You reply that you are part of a team that is trying to figure this whole thing out, and ask her if she would like to help. Katrun thinks about it for a moment, before nodding. “I want to do something specific, though. I have this idea…”, she says. “There are hatchlings that want to go and explore. They want to see the outside world. Can you and your team help me with that?” You nod, you’re certain that you can help. “We could set up a program of some sorts.”, Katrun muses. “Can you find the gate that you came from? That way, the hatchlings don’t exit into the wilderness.” You take a big swig of tea and get up, offering Katrun to take her there right now.

With my help, because you actually can’t see the gates at all, you bring Katrun to the gate from which you entered into the city. It’s a little bit outside of the city’s walls, and invisible to adult dragons. But Katrun has brought one of her pupils with her, a little Fae named Oblis, and the hatchling’s eyes light up as soon as you near the gate. “There is an opening here, miss Katrun!”, Oblis says. “Good!”, Katrun replies. “So, behind this gate is your crew, right?”, she asks you. You nod and pull out your communication doohickey. You call for the dragon called Merlot, and out comes a strong voice. “Oscar! Do you need assistance?” You explain Katrun’s ideas to Merlot and ask if the team can help out. Merlot seems to think about it for a while, but then replies with: “Give us a week to set everything up. It sounds like a good initiative but we’ll need some time.” That’s understandable, and you tell Merlot so. “Thank you so much.”, Katrun chimes in. “As a former traveler, I would love to help other children discover themselves and the world.” Merlot stays silent for a while again. Is there a lag in the communication system? But then she replies: “Yes, you’re very welcome. We will make sure that the hatchlings will be sent out safely.” Katrun thanks Merlot again, and you thank Merlot too. You put the device away, and look up at Katrun who is smiling widely. “This is amazing, thank you so, so much.”, she tells you. She looks at Oblis and tells the small Fae: “Seems like your dream is coming true! You’re going to travel the world! Congratulations!” Oblis flies up and perches on Katrun’s shoulder. “I can’t wait!”, she replies. All three of you return to the city, talking through your plans for the traveling initiative. This is surely going to be great!

Uh-oh, looks like this teacher wandered a little too far from her home lair (grxndsxn, 437722), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. Please refrain from exalting her!

Important note: Please only trade this dragon on travelling dragon threads, as opposed to places such as the Auction House.

Katrun would like to receive a permanent home someday, so if you'd like to adopt her after she's been travelling long enough, just let her owner know!

Katrun has always wanted to teach others about the various things she's learned; Snappers have an excellent memory, after all.

Katrun was flying through the plentiful greenery of a forest when she heard a voice. The tone was clearly that of some sort of teacher or instructor, Katrun would recognize it anywhere. "And then you keep churning it, just so, making sure it remains cold, until ice cream forms!" Katrun spied a skydancer talking to another dragon, who was attempting to churn ice cream in a bucket with its big paws. Curious, Katrun flew closer. But the skydancer noticed her! "Well hello there. Are you interested in learning how to make ice cream? Or perhaps you simply want to sample some?"
Katrun nodded. "I am always interested in learning and teaching others what I've learned. And ice cream is never a bad thing."
The skydancer laughed. "You are my kind of dragon! You are welcome here. This is the Fount of Travelers, and I am Axolotl, the caretaker of this garden glen. If you need a place to rest your head, this is a fine place to do it." Katrun thanked him and introduced herself before listening in to his next instruction to the other dragon about the ice cream. It was several minutes later when a shadow passed over her head! Looking up, Katrun saw the familiar form of two of her sisters! "Aleister! Vasylyna! Down here!" Her sisters turned to see her, flying down at once.
The three sisters enjoyed their stay at the Fount of Travelers, leaving one by one. But Katrun had mastered the art of ice cream by the time she left.

It was almost the longest day of the year, and dragons were starting to talk about journeying to Sundial Terrace for the tracing ceremony. Katrun had never been to one of those before, so she flew to the Sunbeam Ruins, chatting with fellow travelers on the way.

She arrived a couple days early and decided to explore the region, and was glad that she did. There were so many things to learn around the ruins, and so many dragons to teach her about them! Many of the clans there had been there for several generations, and there were lots of other tourists there from all over Sornieth with their own stories to tell. When it began to get bewildering, Katrun sat down in Mirrorlight Promenade and simply gazed at the pillars and the dragons going by. The sunlight was a bit brighter than she would have liked, but otherwise the weather was pleasant.

After a while, a peach-colored Earth guardian walked up to Katrun and introduced herself. Her name was Persica, and she was the co-guardian of a nearby rune-inscribed wall in the Promenade. Katrun remembered that guardians would need to know about all the strangers passing near their Charges to make sure they were not a threat. She gulped and apologized for trespassing, but Persica reassured her that she was not. They soon struck up a lively conversation about the events around town.

They ended up talking for hours, and Persica made lemonade for them. At first their conversation was mostly Persica teaching Katrun about the history of the Sunbeam Ruins and of Persica's homeland of Dragonhome, but then the guardian turned the tables and started asking Katrun questions, giving her an opportunity to practice teaching. Katrun found that she wasn't quite as good at teaching as she had thought, but also that Persica was patient, kind and willing to give pointers. As the sun was setting, Persica's mate, a magnificent imperial named Timaeus, returned home with a smile. He knew Persica loved sharing what she knew, and learning new things to memorialize.

Katrun stayed with her new friends until the day after the ceremony, but then she knew she had to move on. There was still so much to see out in the world.

It was a long trek to the Icewarden's domain, filled with plentiful opportunity to learn cartography, and a bit of history here and there from the many clans passed. Why would Katrun make such a perilous trip? To the furthest reaches of the hellish ice lands, the Fortress of Ends?? Well, much knowledge could be gained from such a trip. Much knowledge gained, and likely just as much to be shared with the exceptionally isolated clans holed up in this frozen prison. (Plus, she wanted to make icecream from the freshest, purest snow in the land).

Upon arrival, she was greeted by a somewhat weathered Snapper, who insisted she come in from the cold and partake in tea.

Katrun shared her recently acquired knowledge of the Sunbeam Ruins, and in return her new acquaintance provided her with combat training.

One day during her stay, the two made many batches of icecream with snow from outdoors. They worked until they got it just right. And Katrun was able to create an official recipe to share with others she encountered.

Quote:
Recipe*:

Granulated Sugar
Salt
Milk
Vanilla Extract
8 cups of snow

Stir non-snow ingredients in large bowl.
Place bowl in freezer (or just place outside).
Go outside to get fresh snow.
Stir in snow until fluffy and scoopable.
Serve immediately!

* Real reference for recipe here!

Katrun's final lessons in the Icewarden's domain came in the form of a son. The hatchling had endless questions, and she strove to answer every one of them. How wonderful it was!
Once her progeny fully fledged, she would be off on the road again, her heart filled to the brim.

Once her son Yewo had grown, Katrun set out once more. Longing for a bit of light after the long months in the Icewarden's domain, she headed once more to the Sunbeam Ruins. She traveled past the Ashfall Waste, which seemed hotter than she remembered before. Perhaps her stay in the Southern Icefield influenced her perception of temperature more than she was aware. Interesting, she thought, making a mental note to study it further later.

An older Imperial named Diem spotted Katrun and hurried over to see if she was alright. "You look as if you've been traveling for a long while. If you'd like to rest, feel free to accompany me home. We can find you a quiet place to recharge." So Katrun followed him to his clan's lair.

As they walked, she learned that Diem is a scholar and an avid teacher and lifelong learner. He was delighted to hear of her previous journey through the lands of Light and that she had found the ceremony to be educational and delightful.

Katrun rested for the evening, and the next morning spent hours discussing philosophy with Diem. Their discourse was deep and enlightening, and Diem was happy to have a companion who found the subject to be as interesting as he did. Not many dragons care to debate metaphysics these days, it seems.

She spent a few more days exploring the area, with Diem happily serving as her guide. She took notes on the ruins and what their original purpose is thought to have been. She learned more about the history of Imperials and how they don't always get along well with Pearlcatchers, not that this clan had that issue. In the evenings she spent time with the hatchlings, teaching them about the various lands of Sornieth. They loved hearing the tales of her travels and wondered if they, too, might someday see more of the world.

After about a week she decided it was time to continue her journey, but she knew that she would always be welcomed back if she were to visit the area again.
