Mervin is a very isolated dragon, he prefers to be by himself. He doesn't like to speak very much, because of a curse that was put on him when he was still just an egg. He was cursed by a wandering witch to only speak in rhymes. His egg was discarded by his mother, so his mother is unknown. But Niagara came across his egg, an unhatched plague egg with a strange aura, while she was out scavenging one day. She took him in, curse and all and raised him as a member of the Water Flight.

He enjoys making potions and spells, he also is very skilled in alchemy- he can create many things out of certain ingredients. He likes to make potions with his mate, Ivory. Together they are the best potion makers in the Moonlit Cove. Mervin also only speaks to Ivory, they are a perfect pair together. He recently took in a student, Murdok, who he is also beginning to speak to as well.
