On a single floating isle, hovering just over the border between the Scarred Wasteland and the Starfall Isles, was a single dusty unmarked grave. A droopy, wilted rose lay atop it, petals fallen into a pile either side of the stem.

A few yards away a hulking, wine colored guardian slept. Piled atop them was a hodge-podge collection of bronze armor - all worn, but loosened for sleep. Shimmering jewels were scattered around them, any chain long gone.

A stir. The guardian's bleary eyes slowly blinked open, squinting against the morning light. How long had they been asleep? How did they get here, to this sad and lonely place? Actually, where was here anyways? More importantly, who were they?

No matter. Blinking the sleep out of their eyes, the guardian slowly rose to their feet and began adjusting their armor back on. That was what one did when waking, right?

As they fumbled around for what they expected to be straps, one claw clinked against an empty glass vial. Peculiar. It had a frayed string, like it was meant to be worn around the neck. The guardian wasn't sure if it'd hold, but they had the distinct impression that they ought to be wearing it for... whatever reason.

Oh, and there was a piece of yellowed parchment on the ground. The writing was faint, but perhaps that would shed some light on the situation.

Once comfortable in their armor, the guardian began to read.

If you're reading this, the bone witch was right and the potion worked. You're probably just waking up and very confused as to where and who you are. Not to worry! I'll tell you everything.

Your name is Hyssop. This used to be a place you loved. It wasn't much special, just a little island in the sky where you and... someone special... would stay despite your warring clans.

Now, though, well. That's a story I can't bear to remember.

Anyways! The important thing is that you're awake and there's nothing stopping you from finding out who you're meant to be. Leave this place, take these jewels, and become someone better.

P.S. No I don't know how long you've slept. It could've been a year, it could've been a thousand. Who knows?

P.P.S. Don't worry about the grave. She's beyond saving.

Well, that was all very odd. As much as Hyssop (that was their name!) would've liked to stay and find out more, the note was very insistent that they leave. Besides, they needed food and there was none here.

Making a mental note to come back to this place later, Hyssop spread their wings and took off.
