Biography
Lyora has spent her entire life in Howlite Hold. In fact, she founded it with her mate, Jarel. But, being a matriarch of an entire clan was not exactly how she envisioned her life. Oh, she performs her required duties and enjoys them to a point. But, she often feels restless and that’s when she tends to get into trouble. Not very proper for a matriarch, but she IS an Arcane dragon after all.
It was during one of these bouts of restlessness that Lyora went into business with her best friend, Esha. Together, they purchased a large storefront in the center of the village and filled it with curiosities from around Sornieth. Odds & Oddities, they called it. And inside was a plethora of magical bits and bobs in quantities quite overwhelming if you were sensitive to their energies.
For a while, this new enterprise filled Lyora with excitement that she hadn’t felt in a long time. It was similar to hatching her first brood of dragonets. Every new shipment that arrived was lovingly unpacked, inspected, and displayed with care. She enjoyed seeing her fellow clan-mates and especially working with Esha.
Esha was an angel. Lyora could not have found a better friend in all of Sornieth. As one of the very first residents of Howlite Hold, Esha had been with Lyora through all the ups and downs of learning to rule a clan. The two she-dragons shared many of the same tastes and interests with just enough differences between them to keep their friendship fun and interesting. Esha was highly intelligent and kept Lyora on her toes with intriguing conversations that sometimes went over Lyora’s head, to tell the truth. Especially when it came to science, which was Esha’s specialty.
Oh, how she missed her friend so...
The Lairwarming Party
Lyora remembered Esha’s lairwarming party like it was yesterday. She had been so excited for her friend, who had been in love with the Red Lair for years. It was such a blessing that the previous owner, even having had 55 hatchlings of her own, left it to Esha in her will. Lyora helped Esha with the renovations and it was a grand time. They laughed and planned and cried sometimes, too. Neither of them had ever taken on such a project before, but over time everything came together perfectly and Esha was eventually rewarded with the lair of her dreams.
Anyone who WAS anyone showed up to Esha’s lairwarming party. She was not only one of the most liked dragons in seven kingdoms, but dragons were curious as to what she did with the Red Lair. Many dragons had tried to buy it over the years, but the owner would never part with it. Not even when they grew too old and decrepit to care for it the way it needed and it began falling into a state of disrepair. In fact, the only dragon she had ever let inside was Esha.
All that aside, the party was fabulous. Everyone came in their most dazzling finery. Pinkies were raised as they sipped white wine poured from a Rambra Horn and snacked on Blacksaddle Wrasse sushi. Beyond The Veil played a more subdued set, though they did liven the party up towards the end of the evening as the refreshments took their hold. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and complimented Esha on her beautiful lair, the envy of many.
During the party, though, Esha seemed tired. Her scales appeared dry and pale. She told Lyora that she had been feeling run down for a few weeks, but assumed it was because of all the work they’d put into the Red Lair and the excitement of throwing the party. Worried for her friend, Lyora helped her to her nest as soon as the guests had departed and placed several healing stones about the den.
“Don’t worry, Dear Heart. I will clean up and let myself out. You just rest and I will check on you tomorrow.”
Those were the last words Lyora ever spoke to her very best friend.
