Biography

Thank you for heeding our call for help! The Dragonhome Preservation Guild is in your debt, if not all of Sornieth!

This list from Provisioner Wilkens states we need lantern oil, blasting powder, reinforced rope, and sturdy wooden beams—in very large quantities, equally. Anyone who actively supports the Guild's mission to answer the Earthshaker's summons will be rewarded for their efforts!

This expedition's lead excavator is Armik, the large clay colored Snapper with a lovely gold gembond. Those gems are as tough as diamonds and double as safety gear for him.

If you see her, please take care around Tetra, the blue guardian and Deepseer. Water responded quickly and fiercely with aid. For your deity to go missing… I can't even imagine… the poor dears…

Oh! And if you run into Edgar, a green unique looking dragon, he's one of the courier dragons. He's running critical inventory communications and updates from our expedition provisioner to the rest of the Guild and myself. Delays could be disastrous.
Velya: (muttering to herself) Where exactly is that ancient lump of rock leading us? He slumbers for eons, now he wants us to dig dig dig with no other instructions, or directions, or anything! He could have at least—Oh! Oh my… how long have you been standing there?

This place is different from the main digsite. The aura, the energy, the magic running through and under the strata. It’s the Earthshaker’s presence. We’re safe here. I haven’t felt this grounded since before Fetter… I don’t think anyone will go missing on this expedition. Oh! That? Don’t, ah, don’t worry about that. It’s a long story, better told another time. Now, rest up while you can, we have an early morning!
Velya: According to Wilkens, for this phase we need significant quantities of blasting powder. Our forward pit cavers must also have an ample supply of reinforced rope and full lanterns when they descend, with backups for both. And wooden beams for additional supports are always needed.

And a vertical pitch down it is! Oh my, those were the days...(sighs fondly) Do you think anyone would notice if I absconded with some rappel gear and joined the forward group?
Velya: THAT WAS EXHILARATING!

Rocks and stones, I wish the guild would stop fretting. I'm the Master Archaeologian, I've mastered all the Guild's disciplines. If there’s anything I’m too old for, it’s being treated like a fragile hatchling. Tsk.

They worry because of...Fetter. He’s my apprentice and next to hold the position of Master Archaeologian. Except he’s missing, as are numerous members of my guild. If something happens to me before Fetter is found, the Guild would vulnerable to power hungry merchants like Ebonhide. Even if I select a new apprentice now, it takes years of study and training to prepare for the position. Armik shows promise but he needs time—experience—to be able to stand up to those who would exploit our guild for profit. No, the Guild’s future depends on finding Fetter.

But we’re here for the Earthshaker and Sornieth! No sense pulling volunteers like yourself into the guild’s—into my—personal matters. Rest up! We have a long trek ahead!
Velya: How odd… this entire section can be cut through without blasting powder? And these walls, they don’t appear natural! If we’re digging into old construction, we’ll need a surplus of wooden beams for support and safety. As for the rest, we'll take any blasting powder, reinforced rope, and lantern oil you can get your talons on—you never know when you'll need extra on a dig!

First we run into evidence of a civilization advanced enough to create durable construction, and now this strange light. Have we found a source for it yet? No? I need to consult with Magister Galford. What could be causing it? And why is it green?!
Velya: This space is filled with what looks like ceremonial trappings and texts, almost like a shrine. But the designs and construction are like nothing we’ve seen before, and certainly not made for a dragon! The implications are… earthshaking.

Is the green aura from that crystal making you uncomfortable, too? Magister Galford doesn’t believe it to be a threat to dragonkind. But based on the state of some of the artefacts we’ve found, he thinks that might not have been the case for the original occupants of this shrine. Fascinating. Galford's sent word back to the Oculus for additional scholars to study the green light's source.

What about this shrine and Chamber 4? I have no idea what you’re talking about. You must have misheard Armik. Now move along and get some rest, we have a long day ahead of us. The Earthshaker’s magic has shifted westward.

I don’t know why the Earthshaker led us here first, but he did. The expedition presses forward!

Velya: Look at this! Underneath this dirt is what looks like carved stone, but I don’t recognize the style! And this tunnel has been collapsed—deliberately so, by the looks of it! We’re going to need more blasting powder, reinforced rope, sturdy wooden beams, and some lantern oil. Prioritize blasting powder whenever you can.

I consulted with Magister Galford about these carved stones. Neither the Guild or the Oculus of the Eleven have any record referencing dragonkind with the crafting methods used to carve these stones. Who could have made this? I can’t wait to see what we find!
Velya: We completed our survey of the exposed buildings. I don’t recognize these construction methods. It’s entirely new to dragons of this era! Until we understand more, I want the expedition to make camp on the opposite end of the cavern, far from the structures. For now, consider them unsafe and dangerous ruins for those without Guild training or experience.

Our working theory? That these are the ancient remains of a great earth flight city. It's been here for quite some time. Long enough we don't have any records of its existence! Oh, this will be quite the study! Why don’t you go join the others and get something to eat? Armik and I will keep an eye on the city. Wilkens put together quite a spread. There’s something for everyone—bugsteak pies with larvae skewers, sautéed greens with a variety of grains, smoked fish with roe, and roasted fowl with giblets. Now, shoo! Go eat!
Velya: THIS is why I kept the rest of the expedition close to the chamber's entrance! The underground river must have worn away the rock beneath the city, and now the floor’s collapsed!

We've lost our entire supply of lantern oil, but no lives or even injuries, thank the Earthshaker! Lantern oil is our top priority, followed by sturdy wooden beams to support the weakened layer, and finally reinforced ropes. We might need blasting powder once we're through here, so if you find any, we'll take it!

Deepseer Tetra says the river was diverted to this area by magic! Only a deity could do this! The fact such a powerful river this deep within Sornieth was forced onto an entirely new course can only serve as further confirmation their deity still lives. The Deepseer unfortunately didn't hear the Tidelord within these waters, but she did see images of the Earthshaker within!

Do you know what this means?! The Earthshaker was here, and not that long ago! The rocks are ringing with his power. We’re close, I can feel it in my bones!

Velya: What… what is this? Statues? And this mineral they’re made of, I’ve never seen it before. Its ability to hold magic isn’t like anything I or even Magister Galford have come across. It’s like with the rocks around us, they’re overflowing with the Earth—(gasps) This is why he brought us here! The Earthshaker carved these statues himself!

Hurry, please assist Armik and Edgar with herding all of the volunteers as far from the statues as possible. Galford, Tetra, and myself, we need to evaluate these artefacts. What are they? Why did he leave them here? What does he want us to do?

By the Rocks, Stones, and Bones! They aren’t statues!

Velya: Obelisk! They aren’t statues, they’re kin. Dragons! This is wonderful! Astounding! Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d find a new living breed of dragon! And if I understand correctly, the Earthshaker created them to help us defend Sornieth from a new unseen threat. One my guild is already facing, I fear...

The Earthshaker, however, isn’t here. (sighs) He likely left shortly before this expedition first broke ground. According to the Obelisk, he's left to search for the source of the threat, deeper into the earth beneath Dragonhome and well beyond our reach. But the artefacts the Earthshaker lead us to on the way here, the shrine, the city, even the mystery of this river...we still have much work to do! We need to secure more funding, and fast. With new backers, maybe we can finally tell Ebonhide to—ahem!

No matter what happens now, we won’t lose sight of the most important fact: Earth’s family has grown! Please give our youngest siblings a warm and joyous welcome!

Thank you for all of your help, we couldn’t have done it without you!
