Shishi

One morning the clan Guardian Draco, just like the rest of the continent, were invited to help with a grand expedition known as The Dustcard Dig. The event revealed The Obelisks- a new breed of dragon created by The Earthshaker. The clan's involvement with the event was as important as any other clan's, but Guardian Draco had a interesting series of events playing out for them. The clan leader, Draco, is a rare sort of guardian; he has lost his charge, but continues to live. Many know that Guardians tend to send themselves away into isolation, never to be seen again after losing a charge, so Draco (and in similar respect, Elavan) surviving the grief is considered a miracle. Now, a little back story: Draco lived a prosperous life shortly after he started his Journey. He found a charge -a earth dragon- and protected her and her efforts to preserve history. She was slain, and to this day Draco blames himself. So when the call for aid came from Earth's territory, his clan was very concerned. What they didn't know was that Draco had answered the call long before the message reached them. The guardian woke in the night, a voice long gone waking him and speaking as if she wasn't dead. the ghost had good news- for all her efforts, there was hope. Not in her return, but in getting him closure. it was what she wanted for him, so Draco set off. He had no idea the rest of his clan was keeping their Dustcarve Dig plans a secret from him, but he eventually found out when a cave-in occurred and he found his clan mates.
Feeling terrible for worrying his daughter and the others, he escorted the dragons back to the clan.
"You deserve an explanation." he stated once they reached the edge of their territory. "So i'll... get to the point."
Draco reached into his coat and retrieved... it looked like a statue of a baby obelisk. Aveline stared at it before looking to her father.
"Word please." She said.
He nodded.
"My charge, she... her spirit came to me and told me about the obelisks. Even in death she is preserving history." the guardian's eyes glistened with tears. "She knew i was still holding onto the pain of her loss. She was happy for me- that i found a new charge in the form of the clan. but she knew me too well. A new charge can not replace the lost one..."
Delphine places her paws on the statue, smoothing claws over the stone and dusting it with her fur. "Its... warm. Alive!"
Draco nodded. "My original charge understood i needed closure. I... thought i had gotten it, but it was clear from how blindly i followed this pursuit that i hadn't. I don't know if what i was doing was healthy or not, but now?" he held the statue up, the light edging the stone and making it glow. "Now... I will be healthier."
Symone watched the stone with confusion just like the rest of the dragons- and then her third eye widened, the runes along her body dancing as she saw the past. Saw the truth behind Draco's true pain and suffering.
His charge had a mate. She had a egg -a child- when she died. the egg was never laid, never hatched. Draco lost his charge, her ambitions, and her child. "Oh, Draco..." she reached out and lowered his arm, bringing the statue closer to the dragons.
"You saw." he asked. she nodded. "My charge gave my closure today. And i hope... that gives all of you closure of your own."
The statue was brought to the nursery. The Dustcarve Chapter watched with Draco as the stone chipped and fell, a blinding light bursting from the stone, followed by a small and weak roar. The obelisk hatchling sniffed about the nest, chewed on some stray stone from his old statue form, and [unnamed] reached out to pet the hatchling.
"Well," he turned to Draco. "Anything you watch to say to the clan's newest member?"
Draco stared at the hatchling, tears falling once as he smiled.
"He looks just like his parents."
He was named Shishi, a word that means "Guardian". The clan felt it fitting, knowing this obelisk now protected the memory of Draco's original charge.
