Biography
Most Obelisks awoke with positive emotions. Some... awoke with righteous fury in their hearts.
Furies are Obelisks, or dragons descended from Obelisks, who seek both to defend and avenge those weaker than themselves. Their preferred method is to come out of the twilight shadows, when daytime dragons' eyes begin to play tricks on them and nocturnal dragons are just beginning to adjust from sleep or sunlight. Furies then assault those who victimized others, and fade away with blood dripping from their bodies.
Furies are marked by the red anger that burns inside them: their faces are blood-red, and phantom blood marks their faces, foreclaws, and wings. They can have all manner of personalities aside from that (e.g., surly, cheerful, bubbly, anxious, serene...) but when anyone weaker than themselves is victimized, the rage rises up and inspires them to stop the harm -- or avenge it. They don't have to take disproportionate action: a bullying hatchling can be removed bodily from the situation, and then sat down for a talk, for instance! (Though one that persists, or one unfortunate enough to encounter a normally-cranky Fury, may get snarled at instead.) Beast clans who are stalking weaker dragons (or weaker beast-clans!) can be chased away instead of eradicated. But Furies will not sit by and allow bullies, or worse, to get away with harming others weaker than themselves.
Descendants of a Fury may be of other breeds of dragon, but to be a Fury themselves, they must have the appropriate colors and genes, and trace their lineage back to an Obelisk Fury (preferably a first-gen one: i.e., Parents: none). (It is entirely possible for magics that change genes or colors to awaken a Fury to their buried heritage, of course!)
Twilight Furies: Primary gene is Fade. Primary colors may be Cornflower, Storm, or Turquoise. Secondary may be any color and gene that remains in the "dark" or "twilight" spectrum. No eyeburners. Preferable are shades of blue or green that harmonize with the primary. Tertiary gene is Smirch, in any red-range that evokes blood.
There are other sub-species, with slightly different personalities. All retain the red "accent" in their Fade primary (or Petals, for Flower Furies), and all have red-range Smirch. Again, any dragon with the appropriate colors and genes who traces its lineage back to a first-gen Obelisk Fury may have inherited the drive forvigilantism Justice.
• Dark Furies (or Dusk Furies) tend to be secretive, and prefer to stalk their prey until they can assault them under cover of true darkness. They have excellent night vision. They may have primary colors of Overcast, Thicket, and Forest. Similar to Twilight Furies, wing-color need only be dark in hue and gene.
• A few paladin-like Furies, bold and honorable, are inclined to stomp up and challenge the villain to a fair fight. They're generally called Day Furies, Light Furies, or -- by their darker-hued relatives -- "those over-honorable, dramatic ones who are a few claws short of an Eliminate." Their primaries may be Amber, Lemon, Sunset, and Beige. Wing-colors/genes are bright or have bright accents.
• Flower Furies have any Petals gene with an accent-color of red. Tertiary is still a red-range Smirch, and Secondary is anything that arguably harmonizes with the primary. These dragons are more inclined to look at systemic issues within lairs or Flight societies, and try to go after the root of the harm. They can offer more mercy to wrong-doers than their Fade-marked cousins and siblings... But even their patience and devotion to the "big picture" will snap eventually, and their blood-marking Tertiary will become real...
• Other Primary genes with a red accent-color that exposes a Fury's nature, such as Swirl or Skink, are permissible. These tend to be grouped under "Flower Furies," as their personalities often mesh with the Petal-gened ones. Ones with the Poison gene are also called "Toxic Furies" and often viewed with suspicion by their cousins -- the purity of their righteous outrage was generated by alchemical means, in them or their ancestors, and their commitment... might be fickle.
