Two days. That was how long they approximated the female Obelisk had been solid rock. And
they seemed mystified by it for some reason. As if her existence was sudden. As if 'adult' beings of their shared caliber couldn't be created in mere minutes.
The Obelisk was overall confused. Everything was so... new. She had come into existence merely
feeling. Those two days... the blunt of her life so far, to say, were likely to be the most peaceful she'll ever have in her life, she figured. She had not yet known sound. She had not yet known light, taste, smell, or even 'touch' as the other 'dragons' put it. She thought she had felt. She knew that she could sense the stone beneath and around her and the tremors that rattled through it whenever something moved, as if she were a part of the earth itself. But apparently she was wrong.
'Javelin', as she had named herself after the small, thin, and pointy sticks the BeastClans
wielded on her way to the Sunbeam Isles, had been perfectly at peace in her spot in the cavern, surrounded by many formations she now knew were her kin. There was nothing to sense other than the stone. But as soon as she felt something shatter though the rock above, things had changed. It hadn't happened immediately, no, as the dragons above had to secure and create a safe path for their flightless brethren before they continued downward, she later found out. Pitter-pattering and soft brushes against the hard ground came closer. And then they stopped, as if a wall had been put between them and her kind.
There still were vibrations as if whatever stones there were wanted to continue forth. As if they
wanted to bash against the stone figures in front of them, or to join them. Probably both. If Javelin had not been paying attention, she would have missed a few of the tremors breaking through the wall and seeping directly to her fellow statues. For a second, she was concerned. Would her kin be smashed to bits? Would they be weathered? Would they cease to be, simply a pile of rubble underfoot? She hoped not. If any of her kin were to die, even though they ranked in the thousands, she would... she... Javelin didn't know what would happen. She wouldn't be able to do anything about it. She was stone, after all. Stone can only sit vigil, and only something bigger than the stone could move it. Would she too turn to dust?
The Obelisk didn't want to think about it. She didn't have to, for something... different happened.
Instead of colliding with the rock of her brethren, the tremors stopped before touching somewhere entirely different from their trajectory! Curious, Javelin narrowed in on one and waited for what was happening next. To her disbelief, her brethren melted! Stone slipped and crumbled to the floor, albeit much less matter than the Obelisk expected. The tremors in front of the new rumble disappeared and two thumps were felt at a longer distance away than before. All the other trembles in the area seemed to cease at once.
Javelin could have sworn her remaining kin felt the same unease she did. After all, they too could
turn into a pile of rubble at a moment's notice. And... after feeling the tranquility they had experienced over their shared existence, they too likely did not want it to end, or for each other to end as well. After all, they were made for a purpose, weren't they? Javelin knew what her purpose was, of course. It was to defend and protect others from the massing danger from below. How she would do that or what exactly was the danger? She had no clue! Despite that, she would still do it. No matter the cost.
Suddenly, the statue felt something small, yet powerful, land on the tip of her nose. It scared
her; Javelin had been so focused on the others that she hadn't noticed the tremors nearing her. As soon as the touch occurred, it disappeared. Though different, intermittent breezes pattered on the stone around her weirded her out. What could do such a thing..? How could something come and go as easily as that? And with such... strength with its relative size?
And then things became weirder. The Obelisk felt herself... melt, starting from where she was
touched on the nose. Stone disintegrated into dust and Javelin instinctively made a motion---yes, a motion---to where she felt the dust and other particles cling inside of her being before she ejected it with an opposite motion. It confused her. And now, as the melting painted the rest of her face, yet another sensation was introduced to her. Something in front of her was changing as if being washed away by the moving particles far to her right and front. Another sensation, similar to the vibrations underfoot but through the air, and felt on the sides of her head. It had a sort of changing volume and... type to it.
As Javelin melted and her crust crumbled to her feet, she realized the more it happened, the
more she could sense and the less she could feel. She felt her being lose its connection with her kin. She ceased being able to sense their presence. But... she also felt she could sense them in the new ways she was discovering.
The feeling of the powerful tiny slab was back on her nose. This time, it skittered up the slope
of her nose's bridge. Javelin didn't know how to react. She only knew that the slab triggered a weird feeling that made her want to... whatever that reverse movement was earlier. Stuffing that desire, the Obelisk waited curiously, feeling the slab, now supported by four stalactites, press its weight into a surprisingly soft, then hard, part of her being, causing Javelin to move---again!---in response. But before she could think on that, the strong small rock pried open another part of her being, increasing that second new sensation! Surprised, the Obelisk opened her other eye to better sense this new... being.
