Avodire is a septcennial dragon who resides in the tall, gnarled old-growth forests bordering the shores of Heron Cove. Years ago, he was the first Imperial to discover the cove, and with his mate Amalthea's encouragement it became their home. The pair built their nest on the edge of a coral structure jutting out from an underwater cave, and soon welcomed four children.

While Avodire and Amalthea both enjoyed the bountiful fauna and unique geography of the Cove, they could not agree on where best to raise their new children. Avodire, being a Nature dragon, longed for the light shining through the canopy of trees and choruses of birdsong that greeted him every forest morning. He felt the ancient border woods would be the ideal place for their hatchlings to grow up. Amalthea, however, being a Water dragon, had already grown quite fond of their home that she had built in a little coral patch dotted with brightly coloured anemones, and it was just a brief swim to the busy metropolis of the central Fishspine Reef, where she had already made new friends.

Before a decision could be reached, the pair received some shocking news. Not one, but all three of their daughters had been chosen by the Tidelord to serve him as apprentices in the Spiral Keep. The young dragonlets had been drawing attention for their pronounced divination skills at quite an early age, so much so that the Tidelord himself had taken notice and they had received The Call. To have three daughters all receive such a high honor was incredibly rare and special, but the new parents felt gutted they would no longer see their children, as it was forbidden by Dragon Law for apprentices to have contact with outside dragons. Their son Darjeeling had not at this point experienced his first vision, and Amalthea suggested to Avodire this was why the Tidelord had not taken him too. Fearing he would soon join his sisters if allowed to stay in the Reef, Amalthea pleaded to Avodire to leave with young Darjeeling and return to the woods until he was old enough to have evaded The Call.

Every morning at dawnbreak, Avodire walked to the edge of the forest along the windy bluffs where the tradewinds gulls roost, and watched the waves lapping at the sands of Heron Cove below. If he lingered long enough, he hoped to catch a glimpse of Amalthea gathering cragside mussels along the shores, who would wave at him from below. As time went on, the tidal winds weathered his hide and slowly bleached the once golden yellow pigment from his scales, rendering him nearly leucistic in appearance. The powerful magic of the ancient forest also had an effect on the old Nature dragon, and great billowing dogwood branches began to grow from his shoulderblades. As if to signify his union with the trees, a crest of delicate white trillium blossoms sprouted around his eyes.

Over the years, Avodire taught Darjeeling everything he knew about the ancient forest and creatures within it. Being a rainforest, there was plenty of vapour and humidity for Darjeeling to pull his Water magic from, and his skills for divination too blossomed, as his mother had always known they would. With Avodire's blessing, he began making trips back to the Cove to deliver his visions and return with any news of Heron Cove. It was following one such visit that Avodire learned that Amalthea had been crowned Queen Regnant of the Cove, and his daughter Reiza was rumoured in whalesong to be the Tidelord's favourite apprentice.

Avodire and Darjeeling's shared love of Granny Smith apples soon attracted the attention of two friendly Cerdae, Lierre and Ciel. While Ciel, like Darjeeling, enjoys basking in sunbeams, Lierre can usually be found sleeping in the shade of Avodire's dogwood branches.
