The devil's after both of us
Oh, lay my curses out to rest
Make a mercy out of me

Oh ashes ashes, dust to dust
Tell me I am good enough
Oh, lay my curses out to rest
Make a mercy out of- (me)"

Sun, or rather, lack of sun, washed itself onto the shores of the Light sands, which seemed a lot sadder at night than they did during the day. A lone Obelisk was pacing the sands, only stopping for a brief moment every now and then to gaze at the pawpads engrained in the soft sand as if he did not know what they were. He was sullen, though his face permanently conveyed a neutral expression.

You were given life, but through what means? And what makes you true to your own word as a guardian if you have none you can truly call your own? Words and thoughts, the same ones that plagued him constantly, were running hot through his mind. Funnily, even if this were to be considered such a bad thing that would make one overemotional, he could hardly feel anything like sadness or even deep thought. If nothing else, he was just thinking.

Eventually, he settled himself upon the sand and stared up at the moon, and at the stars twinkling near them. Lucian was a little like a moon, in a sense – he was watching, from one place, as all the stars were so far away from him, living their own lives but still under his watch – at least, it looked that way from here. It was both interesting and sad, really – the moon watched over the stars, but even the moon itself was truly not its own. They say that the moon exploded off of the earth itself – much the same way his kind was first brought into the world.

Through stone, you were engineered to be a guardian. Lucian had accepted this fate for a very long time, though he believed that if he were simply not stoneborn, perhaps his issues would have been fixed. Then again, he didn’t exactly feel truly righteous to begin with. There was nothing about his circumstances that made him truly worthy of much, even his title as a caretaker. There were too many questions and simply not enough answers to cover them all.

He was lost in through staring at the sky as someone started running toward him, vying for his attention. Lucian was about to shrug it off, but he noticed it was another one of the caretakers he was working with. Shaking off his thoughts, he turned to face them, unsure of what they were looking for. “What is it?” Panting, the other Obelisk cried, “Lucian, we’ve been looking for you everywhere. It’s an emergency.”

What kind of emergency could possibly pull him away from the night? All the dragonlings were asleep. There was no possible way anything else could play out. “If this is about another orphan that came in, I’m not taking it,” Lucian muttered. “I’m busy.” The Obelisk shook his head. “Look, I know you feel weird about taking in orphans because of your own circumstances, but here’s the thing.”

They turned, revealing a small, fragile Obelisk still coated in stone shards, wailing loudly and vying for any kind of parental attention. Lucian gasped silently at the small dragonling – he knew immediately what this was.

“It’s a stoneborn. We can’t allow it to just grow up without a family.” The other Obelisk hung his head. “Listen, Lucian, I know you grew up the same, and it’s hard for you to accept the way things are. But you have to help this Obelisk in a way that I don’t think anyone else can provide right now.”

He took the baby into his arms and stared down at it as it wailed, but remained close to his mane.

Lucian tried his hardest to ignore the tears welling in his own eyes.

Q:
" How, do you deal with your past, when your shoulders are burdened with the weight of your problems and feelings ? It must get lonely out here, no? My most sincere apologies for the intrusive questions friend... It is only plain curiosity of mine, and I hope it'll help heave a bit of weight of your heavy heart. "

A:
Lucian was silent for the most part, its tail swishing this way and that. The question is quite loaded, difficult to answer in one of the most frustrating ways. He had to take a few moments to really absorb this, making sure it was comfortable and calm before starting any sort of sentence. he didn't have much wind left in his sails for crying.

"..I ignore it. I look after so many hatchlings and adolescents, that i don't have time for myself. This is okay, to me. I don't mind. It soothes my soul to give youth the helping hand and the father figure i never had."
