As the newly created stone dragon managed to distinguish her half-formed consciousness from the thoughts and emotions of the Earthshaker for the very first time in her short life, she became aware of two things: that she was not alone in her earthen cocoon, and that she and her siblings were created for a very specific purpose.
"THE ELEMENTS SURGE... MAGIC OVERFLOWS... THE OCEANS ARE SILENT AND THE LANDS SCREAM WITH POWER AND ABOMINATION..."
The earth god that created her was speaking, but she could barely focus with so many new vibrations. Her siblings were frightened and confused, and she could feel herself being raised from the earth into an open space, surrounded on all sides by frigid air instead of the warm, safe pressure of the stone that she was used to. She felt exposed and naked, but the ancient deity was speaking again. This was important, she was created for something important. She had to try and focus.
"I HAVE GIVEN YOU THE ABILITY... TO SENSE THE RETURNED... YOUR SIBLINGS... WARN THEM... GUIDE THEM AWAY FROM THE DANGER WITHIN... GUIDE THEM TO SAFETY, HIDE THEM, OR YOU WILL ALL BE TAKEN..."
...taken? Taken where? What were the Returned? How was she supposed to warn anyone about anything if she didn't understand any of this herself? She wanted to ask so badly, but she didn't know how. Before she could even try, she was hit with a wave of... vibrations... they carried differently in the air, and it was strange to her, but she could still understand. They carried information of the world above them, a realm in the open air and under the ocean, where elemental magics ruled the land, and gave power to other dragons of every shape and size. These must be her other siblings. There was so much to process, she could barely hear what the Earthshaker said next.
"...PROTECT OUR FAMILY... THIS THREAT MUST BE FOUND..."
She wanted him to stay, she wanted to ask more about her purpose, but as the vibrations subsided, she felt he had already left.
She didn't know how much time had passed before the vibrations returned; for all she knew, it could have been mere moments. Her siblings still surrounded her, she knew that, but there were others as well, and the vibrations were getting so loud she felt as though her skin was crumbling... and then she opened her eyes.
The purple dragon in front of her staggered back with a yelp.
