As the other newly-awoken Obelisks greet each other and the diggers, one bright blue dragon sits perched on a crag. She turns from watching the joyous scene below to investigate a bit of exposed crystal. She loses track of time there, tapping the gem with a sharp claw, and only pulls her gaze away when someone touches her shoulder.

A brown Wildclaw stands there, a wide grin on her snout. She tells the Obelisk all about the crystal, about all the crystals in the cave, before starting and asking the Obelisk about herself. They both laugh. They talk for hours, over their shared interest in earth and stone. The Obelisk was overjoyed to have names for the minerals around her, the very material she sprung from. The Wildclaw was happy to have someone actually interested in her rambling.

The Wildclaw introduces herself as Anning, and her partner, who wanders up just at that moment, as Archaea. The Obelisk has no name yet, she is so new. Anning thinks for a long moment, then suggests Lazuli- a bright blue stone. Lazuli accepts the gift, as well as the invitation to return home with the two. The climb up is long, and made more difficult by all the rocks Lazuli and Anning take with them. Lazuli finds one rock that stands out to her, a particularly large and stripey specimen, and carries it with her.

Lazuli finds a home there, in the Amberheart Museum, in the halls of stones and gems and bones. She is... uncertain of the surface. She loves discovering the world beyond the cave, but finds the vast sky and open spaces unsettling. But the museum halls are cool and dark. She dives into learning, studying and reading and examining, and soon is educated enough to work officially at the museum.

Her life is new and exciting, every day a new discovery. One new discovery is especially life-changing- that large and stripey rock turns out to be not a stone, but an egg. An Obelisk egg. She only discovers this when she finds it missing from its display, chipped pieces scattered everywhere, and a small mass of red fur curled up in her bed.

The child, who she names Agate, is a mischievous and dangerously clever cub. They enjoy climbing tall furniture and stealing everything small enough to fit in their paws. They have small hoards scattered about Lazuli's home, Anning's home, the museum, library, gardens, everywhere.
