When Skyr's expedition group returned from Dragonhome, nobody was quite sure what to expect. Willow had received news of a new breed surfacing from deep underground, and everyone's minds were racing as to what it could look like. "Maybe a fierce wyrm ready to rip their enemies to shreds!" "Do you think it's ancient like the rest? I wouldn't be surprised if he kept something so old deep within the earth..." "What if it's temperamental? Snappers mind their own business, but I can't see Earthshaker not getting grumpy sometimes!" Rumors flew faster than some couriers around the Soarer's Retreat, and despite their best efforts, Oinyes and Orinthrope could only quell so many of them. All that was left was to see who the newcomer was. When Tempest arrived, on first glance some believed their rumors to be true. A stiff, piercing stare and lack of any clothes nearly sealed their guesses in stone... Until the dragon spoke up. The last thing anyone expected from such a fierce looking dragon was a small, soft voice murmuring hello, who quickly ducked into the nearest den to rest. Some dragons tried to peer in, but many left in disappointment or out of respect for the newcomer. The only one to not leave was Lilcia, who had happily accepted the duty of helping Tempest get acquainted with his new home. It took a bit of prying, and one long night of rest, but Tempest eventually began opening up about himself and his species. The second last thing the clan expected was a brand new breed, not an ancient, especially considering how picky Tempest was about clothing. Everything felt too cramped, too tight, or too lengthy. It didn't take long for his already-present insecurities about his new home to multiply into a mess of not belonging with his kind. How was he supposed to behave? Earthshaker didn't give him the knowledge to navigate these kinds of problems! He figured Lilcia would find him a lost cause, and leave him to leave for the other ancients within the clan at the Drifting Wilds... Yet she didn't. She kept waiting at his den's entrance for him every single morning, and spent their time together teaching him more about the dragons who lived here, or finding ways to help make him feel at home. It took some searching, but she finally found some clothing he felt comfortable in with some advice from Orinthrope (who found himself in a similar situation after becoming a Gaoler), his favourite being the scarf she picked out for him. The two became friends quickly, and since then he's become acquainted with a handful of other dragons. Things were looking up, and Tempest was finally starting to feel like he belonged. Despite the scary name and appearance, Howler is an incredibly friendly Sphinx, and somewhat acts as Tempest's support familiar. Wherever he goes, it's nearly guaranteed Howler will eagerly follow, almost as if the two were made for each other. After arriving, everyone assumed Tempest's fire element was another reason to be concerned, some even thought he could control lightning hot enough to melt steel with that stormy pelt! He can't figure out why he isn't an Earth dragon, but Lilcia discovered the true purpose of his powers: comf. Tempest is a walking heated blanket, and given the chance and some privacy, sometimes the two nap together, Lilcia curled up in his mane... |
