Biography
Addax is a linguistic historian, an expert on old languages -- particularly of the sort that would be found in ancient ruins, deep in the Hewn City. He was meant to join the Lanternlighters on their expedition, but a confluence of events caused him to be late for his appointment. He was following behind them, and he didn't catch up before the entire expedition was swallowed by the Everdark. Cautious, he remained at the border of this mysterious magic until he received a message from his mate, within the ruins: do not come. Addax did not. But he could not just leave, either; he has established a small waypoint near the entrance to the Everdark, where he gathers assistance from others and necessary resources before he delivers them to Naos, the Lanternlighters' quartermaster. He has become their lifeline: the only thing connecting them to the outside world. There are dragons he cares about in there: several of his students and the love of his life. He won't abandon them. |

Faction
Addax knows very little about the goings-on within Beacon Town and the Everdark; while he does venture in to make deliveries, he never stays long; to do so would curse him, and cut the Lanternlighters off from the world completely. It would be most accurate to say Addax is the leader and sole member of his own faction: a Salvager. He corresponds with contacts out in the world to gain supplies and sympathy for his doomed expedition, bolstering them and helping them to survive. If they last long enough, perhaps they will discover a way out. Addax hopes so. Social skills are not Addax's specialty, and it is difficult to maintain relationships even with the generous souls who donate to the Lanternlighters' cause. Still, Addax does his best; if he fails, everybody does. It is too bad he has to work alone. |

Possessions
Anything he believes the Lanternlighters can use, Addax passes along to Naos and Beacon City. For himself, he keeps copies of texts he knows the Lanternlighters already possess and the occasional storybook, just to entertain him and rest his mind. From the outside, he has little hope of breaking whatever spell maintains the Everdark, but if he can translate even one thing that helps the dragons within, it will have been worth it. His own meals tend to be meagre, as are his living conditions. It feels wrong to live in any sort of luxury out here when his friends and students are stuck in Beacon Town, cursed and struggling to get out. |

Addax and Naos have an established drop point halfway to Beacon Town: just far enough that Addax can leave supplies in the Everdark without risking that the curse will fall on him as well. They communicate in notes left at this drop point; rarely, Naos herself will be there to collect the supplies, but for the most part Addax never meets her. Still, he trusts her; he must. |

Elyon | Student | Seeker Faction Elyon is Addax's most prodigious student, by far the most intelligent of the bunch -- though this comes at the cost of social niceties and any manners at all. He is nearly as much an expert in the ancient languages of the Hewn City as Addax himself, though only nearly. Addax anxiously awaits word that Elyon has solved the mystery; he seems the most likely to. |

Addax has heard nearly nothing of his students, which makes him anxious and fretful. Among them, Eulalia was the most empathetic, the most thoughtful; she always had a way of understanding other dragons, across time and culture, which Addax found intriguing even if it was never useful for study. He hopes she is well. |

Eventide | Student | Sunlighter Faction Eventide was the third and final student of Addax's to join the expedition, and the least prepared. They had only joined his class a few months earlier, and while they had proven themself a dedicated student, they hadn't gotten through very much material. Now, they are trapped in the Everdark; Addax can only hope that the others are watching over them. |
