Biography
Almost since the day she hatched, Cynfaen was a loner and an explorer. Her few siblings found her gaze unnerving, and she spent her early days traversing the smallest caves and crevices around the lair, often being found by orphan Riven as he trailed Silven on his patrols.
Nobody would have known she was trapped if Riven hadn't spoken up. A small tunnel she dug in the lair stood too close to one of the Lightning Flight's powerful generators, and trapped Cynfaen under falling rubble; the small size of the tunnel being the only thing that saved her. Still, so close to a generator, and an older one at that, the now-unstable ground near the generator led to ever-increasing amounts of rubble pressing Cynfaen into the ground.
It was days before Cynfaen was found, with Riven doing his best to lead the search. Barely conscious when her body was uncovered, it was obvious that she wouldn't fully recover, and the wounds that marked her body remained as bright red scars. On her front claws stand bits of exposed bone to this day, a memento of her fierce determination to escape.
Her experience being trapped underground left her with both an inability to fly with the same grace as other spirals and a deep-set fear of the underground. Unfortunately, the obvious nature of her injuries meant that she became more disconnected from her siblings, only spending time with Riven and her familiar Pestilence.
She only recently found her role in the clan: a messenger who carries threats of war. She visits any who try to stake a claim on the clan's land with orders to cease and desist, escorted by Riven, along with other dragons if the offenders are especially threatening. It's a role that suits her well, with her unnerving appearance and her cold demeanor.
This coldness extends to most of the clan, with the exception of Riven. She only expresses her frustration with him, and they often spend time together as he provides her comfort and stability. She has a hard time dealing with her injuries and the unpleasant nature of her role on her own, and Riven's advice and company keep her sane. As to why she keeps it a secret, she isn't close with any other clanmates and refuses to let them see her weakness.
These days, Cynfaen is growing to accept the reality of her injuries and appearance, and now calls Riven her mate rather than just a friend. It will be a long journey to self-acceptance, but she has hope for the future.
