The Birth of the Viking God

Floki was born in the time of vikings, originally a bronze earth bound dragon he watched as the vikings made chaos. He began to pillage with the vikings throughout the continent, they bestowed him with the name Floki. After a couple of decades his human compatriots made too many enemies in Eurasia- they needed new land to conquer. He was there when they built their first ships and dreamed of sailing the ocean in search of adventure and glory. When they finished with their ship and were ready to take off they brought Floki- who was family to them on board. At first there was no problem- after all they tried to account for his weight- but they were not the most experienced ship builders and their kidnapped British ship builder did not think kindly of them. As they floated away from land the ship slowly began to sink and within hours the crew disappeared into the waves. There were no human survivors but Floki washed up on new land. When he woke up his feathered crown was dyed blue like the islands shore. It was the only mark of the tragedy shown on him other than the glow of revenge lying behind his gaze. For a couple of years he was stranded on the island and soon his anger faded and his grief consumed him. His family was gone, and all he had left were the stars. 10 years in he was in bad shape, his diet of fruit and small critters was a great change from his past carnivorous diet with the vikings, while on the island the occasional body would wash up and he- crazed from hunger- would consume it. The first body days after his arrival wore a viking helm- first he buried it but his hunger grew. He buried it without looking at the face perhaps knowing this outcome. Those instances were far and few between. He no longer dreamed of the sea and a ship full of grins, instead he gaze fell towards the birds that flew across the island, just as trapped on the island as him but perhaps more free than he could ever dream. One day someone in strange robes washed on shore, he held a stick in a bone white grip and smelt of roaring spiced viking fires. Floki, full on insane after at the time 50 years on the island, about half his life at that point, just chomped him. He stoped checking for a heart beat a long time ago. The human was a wizard and barely hanging onto life- meaning his magic had yet to go back into the earth. He was one of the most powerful wizards of the time- his story lost through the ages. That magic flowed through Floki and that night while he dreamed of the skies it granted him his wish and grew him a pair of wings. Floki woke up to feel bone ripping through his back, tearing through his flesh. The magic kept him awake to feel every tear, scrape and formation of bone. The pain by the end freed him from his insanity just long enough for him to become horrified by what he had become. The wings gave him enough purpose to hold on to that sanity. He began to practice flight with the birds of the island, and soon realized he could fly for far longer than the birds. He also became healthier as learned flight from watching the birds- yes he ate the birds. He gathered enough strength to fly to mainland. His wings also had taken on the hue of the island’s waters and were a mix of the birds feathers as well as a insects wings. The bee and bird combination is likely the reason he was able to fly across the sea without any issue. When he returned mainland he met with more vikings who had found Floki’s family’s boat- and repurposed the Floki inspired ship head. They thought him to be the god of vikings. While Floki would never again step foot on a boat he did begin to fly with this new generation. He slept on a nearby rock or floating on the water with one of his legs rope tied to the boat to keep him from floating away. His wings made the perfect floating device. He flew under the stars and soon started to learn their way of star navigation they perfected in his 50+ years on the island. As he got closer to these new vikings he started to see his old friends in their faces, he began to once again have horrific nightmares of their screams for help and cries of betrayal. He left these vikings soon after and started to jump from viking ship to viking ship (never flying with British ships). Soon most vikings saw him as their god and their belief and connection with the stars began to appear on Floki’s skin. It also gave Floki power beyond his wildest dreams, it flowed through the pathways carved from the wizards magic and made his bronze body glow with the light of the stars. He truly became the viking god of the sea and navigation.
