Not all those who wander are lost

She was born into the Light. It called her, held her, taught her the Truth. Even when she was young, she loved to learn what the Light could teach her. Reading all day and well into the night, she was rarely without a book. It wasn't long before she had read everything in her clan's library, everything within the Light's quest for truth.

PeaceKeeper started going to the trading post every Sunday to buy books from the incoming traders. She learned about different flights and ways of living, of far off places, and festivals. She would read anything she could get her hands on and after a time began to realize that Light's Truth wasn't the only truth. She began to question her elders about their teachings and was quickly chastised for her curiosity. PeaceKeeper eventually learned to keep quiet about her feelings and bury her beliefs. For years, she felt alone and stifled, unable to be herself. She couldn't bring herself to start a family, but she did her duty to her clan and hatched eggs for the Light. Once she reached her quota, she found ways to avoid doing more.

She did little things to get by and help pass the time. She loved to sing and make jokes - anything to make herself and others smile. But the only times she felt truly alive were on Sunday mornings, on her way to the trading post. There were always new faces of the clans that came to trade and with them came the stories that fueled her imagination. On this particular Sunday, she met a young dragon, Minerva, who told Peacekeeper about her trip, the beauty of the Viridian Labyrinth, the survival skills needed to make the long journey, and all the creatures she had fought. Starry eyed, PeaceKeeper listened to her tales and daydreamed of great adventures and strange beings. When the Clan of the Seekers left, Minerva gave PeaceKeeper a gift, her travel journal. Peacekeeper flew through the pages, devouring every detail - finishing it with a sigh in just a few short hours.

She waited impatiently all week for the Clan of the Seekers to return to the trading post - but they didn't come that Sunday - nor the following Sunday. PeaceKeeper longed for them to appear but she returned to the habits that had served her so well before. She worked to keep herself busy, fearful that perhaps they wouldn't return. She started drawing on anything she could - clothing, journals, even on herself. She became quite good at it, and eventually decided to make the art she'd drawn on herself permanent and learned to tattoo. She also took lessons with the tailor and the armor smith so she could design and create her own armor and apparel. Peacekeeper discovered that she had a knack for design and art--and time seemed to pass more quickly when she was in the midst of creating.

She continued going to the market every Sunday, happy for the chance to sell her armors or to tattoo the incoming dragons. Finally, the day came when Minerva wandered into her booth, and impressed with PeaceKeeper's body art wanted to be tattooed herself. While PeaceKeeper carefully applied the metallic inks to the design Minerva had selected, she thought about what she wanted to say and grew both excited and nervous. After she'd finished Minerva's tattoo, she rallied her courage and asked if they would take her with them, if she could come along and learn to fight. This was her chance to finally escape the role she'd been confined to since she was born. The Clan of the Seekers happily accepted her, assuring her that they never turned Seekers away and that there were many fighters in the clan who would be willing to teach her.

The journey was difficult but exhilarating. Once they arrived, PeaceKeeper knew in her heart that she belonged here. She joined the Clan of the Seekers where her questions were welcome and where she would learn to fight. It was another skill she excelled at and she was quick to learn anything that anyone was willing to teach her. One day, she looked in the mirror and hardly recognized herself. She had become strong, courageous and a coli fighter--and she was happy. She realized then that there were likely many more dragons who were in stifling situations just as she had been...and that she could help them. Over time, both veteran fighters and other seekers looked to her as a leader true to her name, PeaceKeeper.
