Biography

Moonghoul is not a fan of her name, preferring to be simply called Moon. Nonetheless, she holds onto the name as a reminder of her past as well as what her fate could've been: serving one of the deities like her brother. She isn't sure how why she was chosen to continue her training, only to be sent out as a possible recruit to other clans, but she is thankful for it, all the same.

She carries poise and elegance that leave other dragons in awe, but she can be deadly when she wishes to be.

Moonghoul, or better known as Moon, woke up to the first rays of sunlight rising over the horizon. The fresh breeze whipped through her home, the Hewn City. Shattered ruins were scattered throughout the land, merely skeletons of what they once were. Moon looked around her, scanning through the other sleeping forms around her. Her brother, Powder, lay curled up and asleep merely feet away. Moon looked away and locked her gaze on the rising sun, thinking to herself, another day of training. She stood there, lost in her thoughts, even as the sun rose up and the bell rang with a metallic ringing. It was Powder who woke her from her thoughts, yelling," Sister! You're going to be late! Hurry!" Moon, startled, shook herself and ran to get ready for another day of relentless training. As the second bell rang out over the tops of the ruins, the dragons-in-training lined up, waiting. Moon stood beside her brother, tense and ready for whatever the trainers would throw at them today. A short while later, their trainers showed up, battle ready. Moon watched as each of them lined up across one of the dragons, a trainer nicknamed Shark standing across from her, his scars gleaming. The trainer leader stood a bit away, calling out orders," Today, you will be sparring with your trainers!" He paused, letting the dragons lined up mutter among each other," You will need to successfully disarm your trainer..." Moon wasn't listening anymore. Disarm the trainer? She looked up at Shark, his giant build and tough guardian scales shining in the rising sun. Shark's menacing gaze stared her down, yellow eyes gleaming. The lead trainer, Sunspot, finished his directions. Dragons came hurrying out, carrying wooden training swords, and handed them to the trainers. Moon shifted her wings and got ready, making herself smaller. She could use her size to an advantage. Sunspot let out a roar, marking the beginning of training. Moon sped forward, avoiding the wooden training sword and leaping up to knock it away. Moon landed on empty ground and heard a whoosh. She tumbled to the side, avoiding the training sword and watching as Shark's momentum sent him reeling. She took this as a chance and leapt up, dislodging the sword and watching it clatter to the ground. Moon looked up and thought, This is easier than I thought, only to have the sword knocked into her. Moon sped to the side, watching the sword once more," Training doesn't end until I say it does!" Shark growled, causing Moon the leap back into action. The training went on, even as the sun rose to its peak and over, starting its decent back down into the horizon. The clearing was filled with tired dragons, trainers and the training. Just as he sun was about to start sinking below the horizon, Sunspot called the end of the training session. Moon, exhausted, staggered away and laid down in her spot under one of the ruins. She grabbed one of the remaining honeycombs she had stored here and ate it, watching the sun finally sink below the clouded horizon. She watched Powder fly in, just as tired as she was, and lay down. There was a slightly sad look in his eyes but Moon was too tired to ask. She curled up as the moon slowly rose up, shining brightly beside the twinkling stars, and slept. The morning came as if no time had passed at all and Moon opened her eyes, rays of sunlight brightly shining in her sleepy eyes. She turned over to where her brother was, no, where he should have been. Little alarm bells rang in the back of her mind as she jumped up, suddenly awake. Moon looked around, trying to spot his ghostly red scales or dull green wings. He wasn't here. Maybe it's nothing, Moon thought to herself, stretching her wings and taking off. She flew, looking in the most obvious places, the ruins, his favorite spots, the food stores. nowhere. She finally flew the training grounds and spotted him there, standing among the other trainers. Moon dove down, her brown feathered wings shifting close. As she landed, she saw the same sad look as the night before and a possibility struck her. But no, it cant be Moon thought to herself. But it could be. Moon sped up and darted to Powder, staring at him. He looked sad, but he radiated pride too," Powder!" Moon called, getting his attention. Powder said nothing, not meeting her gaze. The trainers beside him looked down at Moon, watching the scene. Powder was about to be exalted. He would go serve directly under Lightweaver. Nobody Moon knew had ever returned from being exalted. Moon wept and Powder silently wept beside her, still not meeting her gaze. The trainers stepped forward," Its time" Powder looked up, meeting Moon's gaze for the first time, tears like crystals sparking in his eyes as he stepped back and spread his wings beside the trainers. Moon stood, frozen, and watched. Watched as he lifted off and in the direction of Lightweaver. Watched as his form became nothing but a speck in the sky.
