Biography

F61hIBk.png

The dragons of Magmablood Rebuke were no strangers to unexplained events, the very ground beneath their feet seemed to have been raised by the Flamecaller herself after all, yet occasionally things happened that none of the Rebels could explain.

The most recent of these were nests of what can only be described as explosive eggs, at first it was just a single nest, yet the phenomenon spread quickly, with clans across the volcano reporting the same experience.

Something was happening to Coatl nests. Shortly before they were due to hatch the eggs would begin to shake violently, exploding soon after, with fragments of shell bursting from the nest. Despite the explosive hatching, the young Coatls appeared to be normal, although many dragons claimed their dull colouration was a warning from the Flamecaller, for each hatchling had drab grey feathers, a bad omen among their kind.

However, within days of hatching the Coatl’s feathers began to change. First their wings slowly turned to burnt oranges and browns, the pattern seeming to shift and shimmer with a life of its own. Then their tails began to glow, at first it was dim, barely noticeable, then brighter and larger. Occasionally flames could be seen along this glow, as if the young Coatls had set their tails alight.

As the Coatls continued to grow, many chose to join the Rebels in their war, training to fight the forces of the Forgemasters. They soon discovered they could expel a wave of fire magic from their bodies, radiating through their bodies until the Coatls appeared to explode in flames. From this talent they affectionately became known as the ‘Combust Chickens’ (much to many of the Coatl’s chagrin). Despite this powerful magic, they were unable to use it as the other Fire dragons did, limited to this explosive blast.

The Coatls that did not join the Rebels became messengers and forgers, others decided to focus on the gathering of knowledge or healing. Yet more became caretakers or storytellers. They spread across Sornieth, finding their way to lairs in other flights across the globe. Yet all remained drawn to their home flight to breed, with no true Combust Chickens hatching outside the volcanic nests of the Fire Flight. The purpose of their creation is yet to be discovered. But it appears they are here to stay.
