The quest has been complete. Dan was seen approaching Kraken's Hollow, returning after his mission of assassinating James and stealing Kindness. It's pretty clear he now had blood on his hands - everyone saw the death message in chat.

He walked down into the currently empty shop, hopping over the questkeeper's counter in the main room and walking down the corridor to the Forbidden Quest room. The soul flames in the walls and lava through the glass floor illuminated the tiny chamber where the lectern and barrel stood dead centre. Dan opened the barrel to retrieve 10 diamonds for himself and place in the netherite sword... but not in the same condition it was in when he got it. He then hurriedly backed out of the shop and encountered Squid returning to go check on his findings. They shared a glance and waved goodbye to eachother, Squid going down into Kraken's Hollow and Dan running as fast as he could to get away.

Squid was now down in the Forbidden Quest room, ready to retrieve the sword once more. At last it will truly be his. At last he can hold the first netherite item on the server once and for all. AT LAST HE CAN HAVE THE MOST POWER!
After great anticipation, he opens the barrel, taking Kindness into his hands and...
